On my new machine (1.4ghz, 256mb ddr, gf2mx, 40gb hd) , I just installed win2k. Everything's fine, apart from when I installed SP2, windows didnt seem to recognise i had anything in my cdrw / dvd drives when i did... although both work fine when I removed the sp. Anyone got any idea why SP2 doesn't seem to like my drives?

SP2 did fixed everything on my PC. I cant run 2k without it.

SP2 adds a couple a of features which are native to XP.

There. I've said it...

I installed SP2 on my main machine, it rebooted and said I had not installed it.

I'll just stick with the updates until SP3

Indeed - with its Tomy ' My First Computer' interface

This is the Windows interface which all new versions will have. It's great. Get used to it, fellas or just use the 'classic' interface until we all view you in the same way we view persistent Win 3.1 users.

:p

Why did they include a "Windows Classic Theme" then?

Hum... they did include Program Manager in Win9x and 2k

Is it in XP? Look for progman.exe prolly in the windows root

And a few extra bits for the Dixons salesperson to impress the customer with - like a built in firewall to stop all those nasty hackers

And Activation to piss you off when you least expect it.

You peeps really need to find out what XP is all about. You might not like it, but then again, you might.

I used 2K for a long time and tried XP out for a short time as dual-boot, just cos it was new, I had a copy and was curious. Within a week I had removed my 2K partition and expanded my XP to use it as my full-time OS.

Each to their own, though. I'm not trying to force my view on you.

I do have to agree that XP = Bollocks

I had installed it as a dual boot also because I had "obtained" a copy that diddnt require activation :D
Unfortunatly, after around 2 weeks I had removed all traces of XP due to the fact that it ended up as slow as a 96 year old man masturbating.

I think XP stands for eXPeriment not eXPeriance.
Its an experiment that went horibly wrong.

And dont worry about SP2 m8, I installed it and it cocked up basically. Simple as. But it does depend on what hardware you have i guess.
I would say dont install it unless you have common hardware like a G-Force instead of some unknown make.

Simple as, the best thing to do is if you are unsure then dont take the risk.
It does bugger all anyway.
I think it was prolly made 2 cock up systems and get people to buy the even crapper XP with the kindergarten interface.

Anyway, my opinions/advice put across.

Darrr! Its a branded Dell workstation with only minor hardware modification (2nd gfx card, and a few HD added). Never mind - as I said - I'll wait for SP3
