Voice Comms Question

A quckie question about voice comms, which I can't seem to get working.

I have done the following:

1. Installed HL 1008 update
2. Installed CS 1.3 (MOD)
3. Tested out microphone during installation (worked fine)
4. Clicked on the "Enable Voice Comms in this mod" box is CS setup
5. Bound a key to activate voice comms (CAPS-LOCK)

Now, during play when I press CAPS-LOCK I get the speaker type icon appearing at the right hand bottom corner of the screen.

However, nobody seems to be able to hear me and my name doesn't come up on the right hand side of the screen as it does when other players are talking.

Also, on the scoreboard, there is no small speaker icon next to my name, although there usually is for all other players in my team.

Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed out a step during the installation?

I can't work it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

You are doing everything right so far...

I would check the levels for your mic in the CS options. If it is up high enough, check your mic.

It could be that the server you are joining has voice comms disabled.
You can check the sv_voiceenable value in gamespy, 0 means off, 1 means on. Barrysworld have turned it off on a lot of servers.

Don't worry about the icons in the scoreboard, your own name doesn't have one, nor does your own name appear at the side when you speak. Just the speaker icon in the bottom right.

I have tested the microphone outside of CS (sound recorder thingy) and it works fine there.

It also worked when HL update asked me to test it during installation, although there was a bit of reverb, I put this down to the way sound is handled within the game.

I'm confident the microphone is working ok.

It really is a strange one.

Still I suppose it's no great loss as it seems not a lot of people are using the voice comms anyway, which is a shame.

I'll have to do a bit more investigation then.....

OK, That explains a few things. Thank you.

So far I have only tried it on servers where other people are using it successfuly, so I am assuming that it is enabled. I will check on Gamespy though.

also try changing your voice key, caps-lock seems a bit dodgy, bind a normal key and try that.
