Views on CS 1.6?????

Now i know its not out "yet" but there are previews @ CSNation.
2 new guns, look nice and a Riot Shield with a Pistol, which should be fun and a Revamps of Aztec and Inferno i think.
From the limited info at the site it looks like a good thing, what do you all think????

1.6 sucks. More headshots, more cheaters, lame guns, stupid bugs, its crap.

There, it's out of the way now, so no whinging when it comes out.

Well, I heard a rumour 1.6 is Steam only. The source may be getting confused with the beta of 1.6, which is definately Steam only. But I can't find out from work (damn web filter).

Can anyone let me know?

As far as i know, they are using the steam system to beta the 1.6 version as they did with the 1.5.

I was lucky enough to be picked to beta V1.5, but to be honest i found the steam system to suck (bear in mind im on a 1mb connex).They really need to improve it i think if it is going to take off.

As for 1.6 i got a E-mail about it, just got my fingers crossed that im still on there list for testing, cos its cool to know that your suggestions about gameplay and changes actually make it (80% of the time) into the final product.

Hehe, one of my suggestions for 1.5 was to have a Team money Pot rather than indiviual player money as i thought it would make the gameplay more fun (ie. not a team full of AWP).You would have to decide between your team mates what arsonal you were gunna use, but it never made it in

Whilst a good idea for clan matches, on publics the arseholes would just buy para's and awp's.

Might work on BW pubbies tho.

The steam system 'sucked' because they forced all the downloads every time you connected, to iron out any bugs. The proper version won't do that. It will download each file once, and that will be it.

First time you play, or play a map, it downloads the software.
Each time you connect to a server it checks your files and if any are different it re-downloads them.And also downloads any updates, and thats what it still does!!!

It wasnt a case of everytime you played you downloaded it, just any modifications you made yourself or made by valve were corrected.

Have you Tried the single player halflife over steam, OMG each time the loading screen comes up a download is required, made the game at least 4 times longer to get through

Thats not exactly true.

I wasnt forced to download everytime i connected, i only downloaded maps i didnt have stored, which takes about 15mins for a map.

by the time the map had downloaded 80% of the time a mapchange would happen.

And the proper version does do that.

Exactly. I am presuming that updates will be done on the fly, so a minor tweak to a file will force the download of that file, instead of bringing out a patch file, which takes everybody ages to get (because of oversubscription).

Major changes will still be issued as compressed files, and I would imagine that you could download new maps etc via your browser, and not the crappy 8k ltd server?

From my POV the worst thing about Steam (apart from it being crap & a stupid idea) is that you can't force it to download everything at once, i.e. if you've not got a rake of map files you cant tell it to grab them all while you piss off for 10 mins, it'll only download them "as needed".

I really hope Valve wise up, steam is was & always will be a pile of crap.

But to get back on topic, i think the shield is gunna really affect the gameplay especially on AS maps.

I think a good idea would be to have both teams get the full weapons to choose from, then it wont matter which team you go for because the weapon selection would be the same, or they really need to give T`s a better start pistol.

Best bit about 1.6 (if I have my facts straight) will be a choice of cammos for CTs... Black is a bit stupid in desert, winter, daylight etc... maps. :/


I'm naively assuming that people don't use funny coloured skins or other h4x.

I have said a few times, that too many maps have too many guns. Certain maps should be rifle free.
