Vieira to stay at Arsenal

Strange move this, it seems to have fallen through because Real refused to pay him as one of the Galacticos - Beckham, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo etc - because they didn't consider him a good enough player, however, one of the main reasons for their 'failure' last season was not replacing Makelele when he left to join Chelsea and as such having no steel in the midfield. I don't think there's any doubt Vieira would have left to join Real if they'd have paid him what he wanted but he's making the clever noises saying how much he loves Arsenal and that he didn't want to leave etc etc etc. Luckily for Arsenal fans he's staying, some may feel he's not as committed but when the biggest club in the world comes along and you have the chance to play alongside the best midfielder in the world then you've got to consider it, surely? All things considered, he's staying and with him on song for Arsenal this season I think Chelsea and Man U are going to have to do something special to dislodge them from the top spot.

Didn't think he'd go, said so all the way through. Glad to see him stay, hilarious to think Real won't pay him the same wage as those mentioned, when he's clearly right up there with them, and blatantly a better all-rounder than the likes of Beckham.

I reckon we could've coped without him but still chuffed he's staying! I saw the interview with him though he didn't seem to pleased...more like "Real wouldn't offer me enough so I'll pretend I'm in love with Arsenal"

No-one knows the full real details, and there's a very good chance that he was asking for more than those players, in the region of £150-200k per week and Real Madrid were offering similar to what he is on or even more.

Glad he's staying but he shoulda been more comitted from the start...

I think we could have survived without him fine, in actual fact still having him might work out worse if his heart isn't in it this season.

From what I saw on Sky Sports News last night, David Dein was saying that it was entirely Patrick's decision and that he poured his heart out to Wenger and said he'd stay. Whether that's true or not, I haven't a clue!

IMO you can't blame the guy for having a think about it.

He's chosen to stay, and that's cool. What annoys me is that football fans expect footballers to make huge life affecting decisions in a single day, and if they don't then they're not respecting the fans. This makes me laugh. Imagine you'd been at the same club, 8 years and become world class in that time. The most famous football club in the world tell everyone they want you and are prepared to spend money on you. They offer lots of money, a nice house in a beautiful area (no fucking London), great weather and the chance to be in a team of superstars. You can't blame players for taking a little time in matters like this. What matters at the end of the day is who he played for, not how long he spent thinking something.
