ok...I can use netmeeting to video conference from home to work(DSL to LAN), from work to a m8s (LAN to DSL) house & it all works fine. All these puters are windows 98 using MSN messenger for the peering (net passport thing).

Now, If my bro-in-law who is on XP tries to netmeeting me I get this and no viddy or sound

You can't accept this request because video and voice conversation is only available on Windows XP. Please ask Eric to send you a voice-only conversation request.

and if I try to invite him to meet, no viddy or sound...

now he to is using msn messenger to peer !doh!

Any ideas...

I haven't included puter specs as there are 4 different ysystems involved....all webcams are phillips pro 3d. I am using a netgear DG814 router with port forwarding settings configured for netmeeting.

????!??

tnx dudes

You wont get video for sure without XP, but you should get sound. Make sure firewalls at both ends are turned off, this solved the same problem for me

Thats the weird thing, GW. I DO get video with win 98 to 98....its almost like MS have introduced a compatibility issue to make people upgrade to XP to enjoy the "superior" qualities of their viddy software.....but the sound dont work either...and the firewalls are configured for the software :?

Try turning off the firewalls. Even with Zonealarm configured to the software it didnt work for me either. Once I turned them off at both ends, the sound worked fine

I believe firewalls have to be set up to allow server when using NetMeeting. Zone alarm for example will not allow NetMeeting if it is not set up to 'allow server'.

Tnx fellers...sadly, disabling both firewalls is ineffective...

The worst part is that netmeeting truly works....ie we can transmit files, use the whiteboards, etc...just no viddy or sound

I may have to upgrade to xp...which while being nice...is a pain in the arse at the same time :(
