From the test forum available at vBulletin.com, VB3 Beta looks quite cool, especially the page view options. However, the skins haven't yet been fully redesigned so things may not look all that different until the product is nearing the final release. Apparently, as a gesture of good will, vBulliten have extended all memberships by three months (if your membership had previously run out, you now have three months access as of 13-06-03).
Having just spoken to DBs, he's apparently got a copy running, but the BarrysWorld/GAME.net forums won't be updated until after the final release, since the forums are quite an integral part of the network's services.
Just out of interest (sorry for hijacking your thread, Emb ), who would be willing to part with their cash for a good, solid forum like vBulletin? Or don't you think it's worth it when there are good, free alternatives?
I'm alergic to any kind of spending... especially if there is a reasonable alternative for free... I only got a MySQL host when someone else offered to pay for it.
My problem is that the site I run is fairly low usage (around 6000 post in a year) and its a non-profit/no-advertising site. So any money I spend (including hosting) comes from my money.
Yeah, when I redo my site I'm going to stay with the free route. I don't doubt that vB is the daddy, but for the price it's just not happening for hobbiests, especially given the quality of the free alternatives.
