Ok I have just won an auction on ebay and the seller is trying to add VAT to the final price of the auction.

Is he allowed to do this?

I have ebayed for a couple of years and have never come across this.

The item is second hand.

Some please advise me on this.

Cheers leggeh.

If there is no mention of VAT in the item description, the seller should not add VAT onto the final item price.

Yep this ebayer is not abiding by the rules. I would email him clarifying the points made in the above link.

Check out his references- has he pullled this stunt before on people and read what they have said about it.

well i checked his the item description and it does say VAT will be added and this is apparently legal as he is VAT registered.

So i dont think I have a leg to stand on as it were.

//edit

i really should have read the item description carefully

Many auctions on Ebay are just mail order businesses selling stuff. They are perfectly entitled to add VAT, so long as it's in the description. Which it sounds like it was. So no, you are thoroughly without legs upon which to stand.
