Valewalker, Reaver, Pally or Merc

thats my options, i want a fun class, with nice abilitys, grp friendly, but also solo friendly, decent pvp and pve, and from what i see, from my choices, thats what i like .

i know this is a bit like the "best melee char" thread or whatever its called, but i simply want 2 know which of these will b good 2 play. and at level 20 what spec would b good? imo

VW: 18scythe 15 arb, Reaver; 18flex 15 shield 14SR, Pally; 20 chants 14 weapon 13 shield (or 14 shield 13 weapon cant member :S), merc will ofc b fish and is lvl 21, so 21thrust 20 DW

tbh i like the VW and Reavers coz i only just found out that they get special positional style abilitys (which 2 me sounds cool ) and they have interupts and self buffs, pally i like the grp friendlyness but dont like the suck dmg (what about 2h pally? are they any good b4 50?) and merc, i just like there dmg and look .

which would you pick, and why?

I'd pick a VW cos Merc is current fotm and Reaver is next fotm and Pally's just suck imo

Crush merc. crush never became fotm as ppl thought. Slash became fotm again after thrust being it for a while. since support wasnt maintargets anymore for albies.

I went crush on my merc just now. mostly for stun and the style gfx looks uber funky xD

WIll be great for solo rvr in NF

think ive decided on VW tbh :S cheap (very good thing for me atm hehe) and they have that sexy root, which is very useful2 stop those stupid casters running away, and imo there styles r quiet sexy, + lifetap, so if i need 2 i can cast away 2 get a bit of health (least thats the plan) and there haste will b cool, specially if i get a slooooooow weapon. thx for ur advice all (p.c. im gunna lvl a merc on the side i think)

Merc without a doubt the 'best' pvp class there, but play what you like

2h pally sucks no matter what level you are

Tbh, who gives a rats arse if its fotm or not, go with wot u like the sound of...

Merc for all out damage no matter where you stand around them.

Reaver for good defense and hardcore positional styles.

VW for the versatility in being able to just kite things.

Pally if you wanna be a pwnage blocker support char. BTW If you make a palyl I suggest 20 Sheild at lvl 20 around 18ish chants, and left overs in slash.

TBH I like the sound of the reavers whip which is why im making a reaver on alb pryd atm

fyi, crush mercs do as much damage as hybrids 'anywhere' their positionals are where their damage are.. Same as all tanks.

Downsides on teh merc on pvp (solo);

Doesn't have speed
Doesn't have stealth
(Either of those are really needed for being capable of getting somewhere solo)

Doesn't have insta interrupt
(You're easy prey for casters)

Doesn't have end regen.


So make a merc, and try it solo.. will be a bitch to advance to 30. However, in a group you're perfect.

I'm yet to die to an even con caster on my merc.. Prevent Flight and anytime stun.. Collect gold. Then again i am uber..

I soloed my merc from 20 to 30 then duo'd with a skald friend randomly up to 43. Got some advice here.

As a merc you can:

- solo most melee classes

- kill BD's (crush specced only)

- eat stealthers for lunch

- virtually kill anything with a skald / minstrel.

As a merc you cannot:

- kill most casters (PBAE's are easy meat though)

- kill wardens

- exp solo unbuffed.

Soloing is hard without speed or stealth but can be done. I know savages and VW's that have soloed their career all the way up to 50. All you need is patience and lots of gold I guess.
