Hi, I like many people have a voodoo2 card.
Is it true to say that voodoo2's suck on q3, due to useing opengl?
if so, does any think that there will be a way of improving its performance.

Same also goes for processor enhancements, for like amd. amd's mod for q2 made an amazing difference in performance.

or saying all of that, is there any good tips for us voodoo owners!!.

seems to me that the older cards has had no invovement in the game at all.

I have a VooDoo2 SLI setup here. Bear in mind that the V2 is now a pretty dated card..

I get a reasonable performance if i turn off Lightmap lighting (30-50fps), although i'm planning of replacing my G200 with a GEforce at some point anyway..

What are you u on about?

V2's work great with q3. I have a V2 with my P2-400 (128mb) and its very playable, even @ 800x600...we're talking 40fps.

Its not quite the same as my P3-500 and V3-3000, but its still good. Make sure you smack your 800x600 refesh rate up to 75hz, and 640x460 up to 120hz, and then depending on what processor you have, choose the rez of your choice. As long as you don't have some common, ubershite 2mb S3 card as your 2D card, it should be fine.

soz about that - forgot password!
Well i have a bit of a dilemma.
I have a athlon 700 with a geforce.
I have all detail on high - and i mean everything.
but on some maps, forgot names now, post later, the games drops to 2fps. One map in particular that does this is the map where you have the bounce pads over to the rl. In front of the RL is the mega health. On the other side of the map are bounce pads leading to the red armor and railgun.
Now when im in the 2 corridors connecting these two sections the game runs fine, but the minute i enter these sections (especially thr rl one)the game totally slows down to the point of silliness. According to the on screen fps, it drops from 60 to 2.
This definately isnt right for my system (running in res 1064 x 900 summt).

Anyone else had these probs.
BTW my geforce is a guillemot one (prophet).
I have all the latest drivers, etc.
Other games do this as well, notably midtown madness which pretty much does the same thing, i.e. drop to stupidly low framerates.

Any help will be majorly appreciated!

Drivers. Nuff said. Athlons can be cunts... goto www.3dgpu.com and check their recommended use of drivers for a similar setup as yours and check the forums - loads of experienced users there.

I think I have a feeling i know where u got yer athlon too coz i think im the one who processed yer order

thanks, ill be sorting this little problem out soon.
I actually just dled the new nvida drivers (4.12 i think) and midtown works fine now. UT works a lot better (but it did anyway)but q3 is still shite in the previously mentioned res. I decided to drop down to 800x600 and it works fine. Ill try those links though, and see where it gets me.
Now all i need to do is sort out the network internet sharing thingy and i might be able to use the new comp on the net - atm im stuck on a knackard p200
