I used to play loads of action quake and a fair bit of q3 but now im at uni everyone in my hall is playing UT.

basically im looking for UT related 'stuff', i tried the bw guide page but it is down or something. what maps are common to duel on? atm im liking deck16 but there may be way better custom maps out there.

im also playing on the unpatched version of the game mainly because ive only got the crack for the unpatched version. is it worth updating it? keep in mind im not gonna play online just against people in the halls.

i do know how to play the game reasonably well (i can beat the godlike bots etc) but theres always room for improvement. i guess im just looking for tips or pointers in the right direction

Combo your way to victory

Deck and Turbine are good for duels imo. Also there's a nice conversion of the old QW tiny duel map 'Tight' about if u can find it. I love that

Just remember that Quake-type skillz will only get u so far. There's really no eqivalent in those games to comboing, loading up a six-pack and flak-primary. Without those skillz u'll find it hard against good UT players. Also remember the shaft (and mini) has a very different feel to Q3 shaft (or QW for that matter.)

whats combo'ing then? firing 6 rockets up as cover and moving in good flak range?

i prefer instant rocket fire for some reason, if no-one does this im prepared to learn the loading up way

are there any demos of the worlds best ut players in action? i used to enjoy watching them q3 championships etc.

Um, comboing with the Shock Rifle. Firing it's secondary fire then firing the primary into it. An ESSENTIAL UT skill.

Flak primary?!?! If u r gonna use flak at least use secondary...that requires at least a tiny bit of skill

If u r a LPB, shock primary and combos are definately the way to go.

Winning is winning. Not actually that many great uses of Flak Primary in CTF tho. It's just a decent all-purpose weapon. TeamDM I only admin not play so I can't comment
