Looking to buy a used car on a tightish budget (basically dont want to invest too much cash in a car yet as I work in the public sector :) )

Dumping a 2ltr volvo and scaling down to get cheaper insurance and petrol and I've seen a couple of Rover25's that take my fancy but no absolutely nothing about the build quality etc. Looked on a few websites but there as inconclusive as ever....

so anyone have any experience/knowledge of Rover25's circa 2000-2001???

Rover

You gotta be joking ???? you be lucky to find any parts for it seeing as Rover doesn't exist anymore.

If you looking for cheap car best bet be for a small frenchie car Citroen/Peugot or Renault can pick up some nice bargains and fairly newish all depending on you price range tbh.

Parts easy to come by and cheap to run.

All depends on you price range tho if you got if you 5 grand you probably pick up a new car for that being an X demo from forecourt.

dont dismiss a rover, cheap enough and real good engines, had a couple over the years, all comes down to budget realy,i used to pop to the auctions pic a cheap runner for a year, one of the best buys i ever had was a rover 400,never let me down got more than my moneys worth out of it very cheap to run and tax/insure as well as it was only a 1.3 engine...

Peugeot 306, ford fiesta, vauxhall corsa are your main cheap, low insurance cars. I bough a skoda fabia 01 plate last year and it runs fantastic, no problems at all with the engine just some electrical but it will cost a little more than the others. Rover25's I don't know much about but I have a classic mini sprite which is rover made and that 95' and 60k miles and still starts first time and is a nice engine but as far as parts are concerned its easier for mini's as they have a following whereas I don't know about other rover models. GL finding a decent one is bloody hard work.

lol my experience with used cars comes from growing up having a father who was 1) tighter than a crabs arse and 2) had quite possibly the worst taste in cars ever. I shall provide some examples for your extertainment...

Ford Capri: (the delightful colour of baked sick, honstly it was) this one started spewing smoke as we were driving one day, I was in the back seat and couldn't see anyting because the springs were gone so couldn't see anything aside from my own knee caps, next thing I knew myself and a sibling were being thrown from the car which stood there sending smoke signals to the mothership of bad taste to come collect it. I was holing I'd be able to run away and jump to the side screaming noooo as it blew up but it just smoked and died.

VW Camper van: (painted with bright blue hammerite) tis was a gem of a car, it had a wonderful vent system which consisted of a hole in the floor by the benches that served as passenger seats, to stop the fumes from the exhaust pipe drifting back in and gassing me and other child the parental units thought it would be good enough to throw a bit of carpet over it...may or may not of kept fumes out but did bugger all to keep the van warm!

BMW: (cream...or beige, I can't recall) blew up

Range Rover: (white) blew up after brakes failed and got crashed into a tree

big square thing, I believe was called an FSO: (not sure, it was either rusty brown or just rusty), steering wheel locked in place once, had to wait till it ran out of fuel before grinding to a hault.

There were others long forgotten in the mists of time, none of which had a happy ending needless to say my view of cheap second hand cars is a dim one to say the least.

Heh bought a 53 plate rover in the end. Basically vecause it had only done 19k miles. Been perfectly fine so far, apart from needing a new front grill now because some dumbass drunk ran in front of us last week and fell into it. Thought wed killed him. He got up and staggered off......
