Well basically i bought a 3DataModem today so i could finally have broadband type net at home :D

It works ok on one of my pc's but not atall on the other ... Its suppossed to autoinstall itself via the usb port but on old pc nothing happens :(

How do i check my USB ports are active and working ?

Im 100% sure the ports are there as there is 5 slots with univeral USB symbol and also says USB2 on pc cover ... pc is 3-4 years old 2gig Packard Bell AMD Athalon i-extreme 6092 series :worthy:

I'd go for the low tech approach and bung a flash drive in a usb slot to be honest. That installs, then the problem ain't the USB slot.

Might have this sorted - but in the BIOS USB ports can also be turned off.

Other thing to do is check if the USB controller drivers are installed properly via control panel>system>hardware>device manager.

If the usb controller device has an ! by it then first port of call would be to find the system drivers from the PC manufacturer (or the mobo drivers if you know the model) and install them. If no joy there then you can go to the mainboard chipset manufacturer (via/intel etc) as they should have drivers packaged for use - such as the via 4in1 drivers.
