Reet, bit of advice requird.
I'm fully aware that USB ports can only reliable handle 500ma.
But, is this per port or per hub?
Per hub, i mean you get 2 ports to one hub (on the motherboard typically, i have 2 sets of headers and the onboard ports, giving 3 hubs in total)

Does that give me 1000ma per hub, or 500ma?
Not been able to find out with vigerous searching on the 'Net, so thought I'd ask 'ere :)

Cheers me'dears in advance

500ma per port. If your Root HUB has 2 ports then it will be 2x500ma although these can not be combined to one port with 1000ma.

If you go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device manager, USB Controllers and then right click on one of the Root hubs and then click on properties...then you'll see a TAB listed Power and this will give you the figures on limits and current usage etc.

Aye, I knew all aboot that Embattle : just wasn't clear on the limits per port or per hub. Certainly didn't mean to "combine" anything in any way shape or form.

Cheers Ted, that's a good site, informative.

It was just out of interest really, new case, 6 USB ports now dangling off my motherboard, and just wanted to make sure I wasn't pushing my luck with my ADSL modem and optical mouse hanging off the same hub.

Cheers chaps, nicely done.
