Right, as you know, BW won't be here for long ( ) so a few of us wanna start up a new forum for ex-BW members in rememberance etc etc.

Therefore, as a temporary measure, we neeeeed some webspace with PHP/CGI support so we can host a decent forum for a while. So, till we find a better solution, we're after some free space which supports PHP/CGI then we can get a forum up and running before wednesday and hopefully get word around of where we can be found when the time comes

So, any links greatfully recieved.

Also, ideas bout the sub sections of the main message board: do we essentially use the same as already here @ BW or do we use most as per here yet add more for general interest stuff etc?

Any ideas would be good, afterall it is a forum for the members

BW staff, if you see this, I don't spose we could somehow have a backup of your forum which we could either upload to new space or transfer to new space etc? Then we can keep all tha old threads etc And it'd be cool for you guys to admin/mod it too if ya wanna/have time etc.

Okie my m8 Dave (ooh same name as me) @ hexus.net has just said I can host the forums on his server and we can have a domain name like http://www.bw.hexus.net etc too, so I am sorting which forum to use then he said he'll install it for us.

Rite then I have some PHP capable unlimited webspace with freeola.com (tis temporary but betta than nowt) and the board from http://www.bbhacks.com which uses PHP.

Problem: how the fuck does PHP work I have no idea how to get it to install properly, so does anyone know the score with setting such a forum up? If you are well mintored at PHP-ness and know what you're doing, I don't spose you'd like to get the bugger to install for me would ya?

Gah I could have had this one up and running today methinks if I had some MySQL space but I have no idea what it is anyways, but if I had it, a bit of playing could see it up and running It seems without the MySQL shit it wouldn't work as SQL is some kinda database thing which it needs..???

ANYONE!!!!!!!! Do you know of any free forums which don't need SQL stuff? PHP and CGI based are no botha and a legal one (i.e. not just UBB files) would be better

I'll give it a coupla days for feedback, and I'll look around, but if nothing then I'm afraid I'll have to give up.

lol I forgot about this one... as some of you know, I'm mates with the owner of http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk and he says we can have a free forum which is based on one he's building. It'd mean we couldn't customise it or admin it for a while which means maintaining it aint the easiest thing but he wants us as test pilots and we'd get a forum. I'd ideally like one of our own which we can maintain properly but this one is available too. Gimme some comments innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnit

oh and MySQL and postgresql are databases that run on unix based systems [and some others too I believe]
you need a database backend to get any kind of performance out of your forum-frontend. j00 could always code one yourself or use some kinda flat-file based alternative but it won't be anything like the so called 'real thing'

Well if anyone knows where I can find space with MySQL support and PHP support then we can still go with the original idea aslong as someone $|<1ll3|) helps me install it on the server

If not, then the test forum thingy option is the only way to go.

We have like 1 day to find suitable space or it won't be worthwhile sorting our own because we need time to set it up and advertise it... hence the other forum will have to do for now
