Okay, I'm very fortunate to have 600 pounds to spend on upgrading my PC. The things I want are :
New processor and Motherboard,
New monitor,
New graphics card,
memory,
Tower Case.

Can anyone out there suggest products that are decent and would fit my budget of 600 pounds?
I was thinking of 128 megs RAM and a Celeron 450 and Abit Jumperless Mother Board. Some non-destript monitor that goes up to 1024 or maybe 1280. A TNT2 Ultra and a generic tower case (midi-tower).
Does this sounds good? Can anyone suggest any chages to this list?

lo m8
righty good idea on celeron 450, Get the Abit bh6 and socket>slot adapter (tenner) If cant afford that then get a celeron 400 or 366, they clock nicely. 128 mb should do you ok, at 60 quid for 100mhz ram it aint bad. Get a proview 17" monitor, should be able to pick one up for 160-180 quid. That should keep ya happy, Also if ya got any spare cash get a sound blaster live value and creative 4 point surround speakers - you wont reget it

I've been searching round and have decided on a few things.....
Chip = Celeron 400
MB = Abit dual celeron (so when I get Windows 2000 I can plonk another celeron in)
I've got a awe64 gold which I'm quite happy with and I'm gonna buy a TNT2 Ultra from Creative Labs.
I've seen a 15 inch monitor for 12 quid that goes up to 1280 @ 60 Hz. with .28 dot pitch, I think this is pretty good. Can someone point me in the direct of 128 MB memory that's very cheap (PC100 obviously). The cheapest I've found online so far is 105 pounds which is more than I want to play. Although I do want it to be receptive to overclocking the celeron to 450.

I also have 12 speed CD rom which I am perfectly happy with. If anyone can give me a VERY good reason to get rid of this I will stick with it until DVD's become very mainstream.

I found ram at insight for 80 quid. Neither simply or insight sell Diamond TNT2's the other choice is the Elsa Erazor3 (TNT2 ultra). It sounds okay. Any opinion on this?

The Maxi Card is also available.
The Elsa is cheaper. If there's only a few FPS difference between these two I'll get the Elsa one if you think the CL one is poo. Both have TV out which is pretty cool if I can get it hooked up to the 29 inch TV my parents have got. The monitor I think I'll get is a mitsubishi 15" job and goes up to 1280 at 60 hz so I think that's okay, it costs 140 incl VAT.

Dunno about the 15" monitor, I think you should go for the biggest monitor that you can afford. Your monitor is probably the most futureproof piece of kit you can buy, so make sure u get a good one! If your going to use Hi-res then get 17" for sure, simple rule the bigger the better.

Ta for those sites, TBH I hadn't found 'em before VERY interesting as I have had a fair few processors and had only 75% success with the O'clocking.

Helps to have 'em pre tested
