My Shrouded Isles was connected to the USA servers in the update.dat file, which I fixed first time around.
This did not finish the problem, because today, the same problem occured. I thought I was connected to the English servers now, but it seems I was not...
The USA server started downloading it's patch again.(This is a while after the first time it happened.)
I checked my update.dat file and it had been changed back to the USA server...
This is confusing for me ~ How did it do this and do I have to re-download the English patch everytime the USA has an update?

Its when the EU patch server lags your game tries the US servers as a "backup plan".

It sucks i know :/

reinstall will work (if a bit of a pain)

when you have done that - make a backup of your update.dat and your camelot.exe

copy those two back if you ever get it again.

Worked fine for me anyway.

If you have an OS that allows setting file permissions it might be worth setting the update file to read only, and change it when you know a patch is due...

Might save a re-install or two, not sure if the patcher can change it but might be worth a go.

I Know how to fix the problem, because this is not the first time that this thing has happened to me...
I'm annoyed at the fact the update.dat file seems to have reset itself back to the USA patch...
I logged on and it connected to the USA, after last time this happened I made sure I saved the EU one.

Has this happened to anyone else?
-It seems the only way to fix this problem is to sit through a reset EU download everytime the USA have a patch update...

If you got a firewall just block the US patchers their ip's

the update.dat file will just have 3 lines and will look like this:
Mythic Patch
193.252.123.21:1280/updates/english/isles/mpatch.dat
193.252.123.21:1280/updates/english/isles/mpatch.dat

had the same problem the other night.... started downloading US patch.... i pressed cancel and edited update.dat

connected again.. and downloaded the files that had been overwritten...

started game and it worked..

try it... its much easier then reinstalling the freaking game

Yeah dont reinstall thats extreme I have a copy of update named update2 :eek2: and if tries to connect to US to patch there ,then i just stop it and cut n paste the three lines mentioned above ,back from update2 into update to overwrite new us update line.... erm. you get what i mean anyway

Diff is only a few MB anyway between the Euro/US versions, doesnt take long on my 56k so anyone on dsl wont even notice lol

I think you missed the point.

I have already reconfigured my update.dat file a while ago.
It then connected to the EU like it should.

Today it connected to the US servers again, for the 2nd time.
I saved the update.dat the 1st time this problem happened.
Today, it seemed to connect to the USA servers again, for no reason...

Mine has been doing this for about 3 days now. Traced it to a problem with Blueyonder Broadband in my area (Sheffield). Its keeps getting the US version cause it cant connect to the update server.

Basically if your getting the US version all the time then theres a coms problem with your ISP and it will proably fix itself in a day or two (mine has). Bit of a hassle, but if you keep chaning the update.dat as people suggest it will work once you connection sorts itself out.

Reinstalling is silly, it will just do the same thing once you reinstall This will appear to work for some people, but thats just cause you wasted 1hr installing the game, by which time the patch server or your coms settled down !
