Upcoming LAN: i9

Tis that time when Multiplay unlease their spamming pe0ns upon the unsuspecting world to pimp the infamous LAN series that goes by the name of insomnia. i9 is now just 5 weeks away and NOW is the time to signup to get the best out of what is going to be a pretty damn fine event if i8 and a whole list of improvements promised are anything to go by.

Basically, for those whove yet to witness an i-series event, these are the largest LANs run in the UK, organised by Multiplay. i9 will be another 840 people event which means you can play half-decent game any time you goddamn please, that goes from CS to AoE2 and i8 favourite, Armagetron.

Signing up is pretty easy, use the main multiplay website link below and signup to their database, then use the signup to i9 link below to .. signup to i9 (well... duh). Any questions can be asked in the i9 forum, all other details such as price/location/etc can be found at the main site.

I like the way you avoided the cost in your initial statement, very cunning. One must assume therefore that its just as stupidly priced as the previous events.

Hi, I shant be coming.

if u think £60 or whatever it is for 60 hours of gaming is expensive:

1) u're very much misguided on what is 'over priced'
2) u're gonna be going to small LANs for the rest of your life, which simply don't compare to the i-series if you ask any of its attendees

Anyway, nm, the reason for not mentioning hte price was.. I didn't know it and in all honesty I couldn't be arsed to find out what it was :p

sorry to piss on your fire viruz, but ive been going to the i-series since i2, and they were far FAR better as small LAN's. None of this warez policy shite (most of it was on the admin's PC's), games servers were much busier (less servers doing less games, seems to add up to better gaming than the deluge they run now), the atmosphere was much better, and there were less lamers there. The price was also much more reasonable for what you got.

I wouldn't mind going to a LAN sometime but sitting a room full of sweaty people isn't my idea of fun :)

Amen.

Plus the list of attendees only ever has a couple of people I'd like to meet, the rest are just lamer cocks who take things like IRC far too seriously, featuring a pole up the arse.

840 people?

Sounds like a nightmare.

I prefer smaller LAN's where you can actually meet people rather than just get lost in a crowd...LAN's (for me anyway) are more about the social aspect than the gaming.

...and £60 is a f\/cking rip-off extraordinaire, how on EARTH can they charge so much? I help run and organise SavLAN's for 100+ people and the MOST we've ever charged is £35 for 3 days worth of gaming - and we make enough money from it to ensure that our costs are covered and any profit is ploughed back INTO the on-line leagues (server rentals, etc).

i-series is a nice little scam for someone, but not one I would subscribe to.

I paid £5 for a LAN with 40 people, the duration of which had my machine spent sitting next to a gigabit Cisco switch, streaming data into my 'putee via a gig fibre.

MPUK offer this?

Edit, yes they do beer, but it's more water than beer.

I've been to early i-series and also 10-15 people lans

I-series lans suck in comparison.

Lans 'parties' overall suck anyway.

Ok, so you only get half-decent games at the i-series lans... also, what is this "Armagetron" of which you speak ??

I've been going to large and small lans for quite some years now, and must say, there just ain't any beating a small lan (30-40 peeps)

As MrB said, one of the most important features of a lan is the social side...

So from my side of the world, here's a smiley for ya i-9 --> :upyours:

I've been to i2, i3, i6 and i7.

Went from great, great, not bad, to wank.

Price went from ok,ok, bit much to rip-off.

Pings went from good, good, ok, to 230 in CS on a fucking LAN WTF?

Bacon sarnies at venue = one slimy streak of shit from an anorexic pig slapped in 2 slices of wet bread. Yours for TWO QUID.

The price is a joke. Hence me and about 40 ppl I know fucking the i-series off.

The final straw(s) were:

a) a fuckwit game admin uploading a virus to the MPUK FTP (which you were supposed to use to get patches etc from as you weren't allowed to host your own FTP).

b) In the CS tourney at i7 one clan were blatantly cheating in our match. After complaining I was told in-game "I'll come down and find your seat number and stab you". Being 30 yrs old and a big fucker I wasn't too scared :), but this is the kind of shit you get online NOT AT A LAN FFS. I know this isn't MPUK's fault but its a symptom of the HUGE amount of people there. It basically feels like you are playing online against faceless muppets rather than SEEING THE FACE of the muppet as you shoot them in the face ;).

At the end of the day you can't please everyone and I'm only posting here as I am still pissed off that a great series of LANs has declined in quality (IMO). Its a bit "faceless" for me - I like the small LANs and great atmosphere.

And as for "if u think £60 or whatever it is for 60 hours of gaming is expensive...u're very much misguided on what is 'over priced'" - what a crock of shit. Save the comedy for the stage for fucks sake, it IS overpriced. The excuses for the high price include things like "PLANETARION AT THE LAN WHOOHOO". If I wanted to play planetarion I would think GREAT but as I don't think much to Excel in Space I dont see why I have to pay the inflated ticket price to cover it? . Viruz if you think its great value and fantastic - have a great time pls and good luck to you. I'll just drool in the corner and hark back to i2 :) Oh and I happen to know wizzo and believe me he's had his ear bashed :p.

Fuck it have fun those who go, I'll be at SavLAN3 :).

i6... christ that was fun...

I was just leaving AQ2 behind at the time, although I had a fair few friends who still played. They signed up in the AQ2 setion, set their computers up, started their favoyurite game and, what's this, no MOUK servers. OK, they think, we must have been given the wrong IPs.

"No, sorry, we have no-one who could set up an AQ2 server so we don't have one"

Nice one lads. Me being the enterprising chap am, offered to set up their server for them, with the server configs I keep on my machine. All hunky dory and up and running in 5 mins. When I'd finished, did I get a thank you, or a pint of the awful beerwater? Did I fuck.

"Sorry, this area is staff only, can you leave please"

Not to mention 2 of the AQ2 lads got the CIH virus off the official FTP. Put them off subsequent ix lans anyway.
