I'm currently studying at uni, am in halls and have no phoneline the only access to the internet i have is through the university network. Alas they have a firewall on this which allows me to do fuck all, my knowledge on firewalls is somewhat limited, i would like to know if there is any possible way around it. Or am i stuck with primitive use of the internet web browsing and msn for the rest of the year :(
Thanks

Its not called a firewall for nothing, do your friends a favour and burn the damn thing ;)

Alternativly, i think if you can find out which port thingies DAoC goes through you can ask them (the admin ner... folks) to allow access through those ports. Call it a Historical Research program or somthing along those lines ;)

Other than that, there's not much to do, unless you can get someone with a good connection to run a VPN server with internet access for you, or a SOCKS proxy (you'd have to use SocksCap32 to make it's use transparent)

Provided VPN does work of course..

meh, beat me to it

if the admins don't want to open those ports for you, trying to get daoc socksified looks like the only option

Have a look at this :-

http://www.htthost.com/

It may work with DAoC although I've not tested it myself.

I have had some success on other apps with this though in the past, worth a try ;)

Anyway, shouldn't you be down the pub?

Good luck getting on

hehe chances are the network is locked down tighter than a tight thing being very tight.

The problem is the large range of ports that dark age of camelot uses, and the fact that they're probably giving you Internet access via JaNET. If they are connecting you through janet - they aren't supposed to let you use your uni connection to play games. It depends on the admin team at the uni in question as to how strictly they will enforce that however.

From the fact that they're running content filtering - I would say you're buggered, unless you know a very very good hacker and spoofer - and even then you're risking being kicked off the network.

MY advice is find a room in a house, pay for broad band and move out ;)

Much MUCH easier
