Right, it's time for this *near dead* forum to wake up a bit. So how about a "game"?

This "game" involves people (you!), to give two (two!)points of view (opinion!). One point involves a film you've seen, and heartily recommend (preferably one you think others may not have seen, but don't worry about this too much pls, i don't care about some random film from Equatorial Guinea :)), and the other point is about a film you've seen and think it's the biggest waste of time, ever. Yup, an underrated film and an overrated film, and why.

Here's the rules:
1: No slagging off one's opinion, however, healthy debate is encouraged
2: You may make more than one recommendation or anti-recommendation per post, and you may post more than once
3: Mark your spoilers, biznitches!

Underrated:
Punch Drunk Love - This was a film i hadn't heard of, until a friend of mine pointed it out to me. I thought Adam Sandler's acting was the finest of his career, and portrayed a somewhat troubled man brilliantly. There's symbolism everywhere in this film, and a closer look at the film brings up all sorts of possible interpretations. I found it quite an intriguing experience actually, as well as being able to relate to Adam's character.

Overrated:
The Others - I really didn't like this film, and i'm glad i didn't go out of my way to see it. Utterly predictable, and it's not helped by Nicole Kidman's incredibly bad over-acting (Why is she an A-list Hollywood actor? :/). This film tried far too hard in using atmosphere (which i thought it did quite badly) and darkness to add tension. The two children only got on my nerves, and i couldn't care less for their fortunes.

Underrated - Two Minute Warning, A 70s Charlton Heston Film about a sniper inside the ground during an American Football game (hence the title). Has lots of sub stories involved before the action begins.

Overrated - Star Wars, I'm not a fan of Sci-Fi or fantasy so combining the two makes a huge load of tripe.

Under - The experiment really cool german movie about an experiment (no surprise there :p) in a prison where people are 'roleplaying' prisoners and guards. After a while the guards become a bit.. strict :p

Over - Spiderman 1+2, I thought they were okay but not so great as everyone else seems to think.

Yeah I seem to remember the Beeb making one (shown on BBC 2 IIRC).

Didn't catch it though.

Underrated - Yellowbeard ( the lesser known Monty Python flick, written by Graham Chapman and Peter cook, so its gotta be good really.....) Great comedy from the early 80's with an amazing cast, and the gags just never get old.

Overrated - The Blair witch Project, what a load of over hyped Toss, need I say more?

How can it be a Monty Python flick if it's written by Chapman and Cook?

Well officially its not, I guess I've just always looked at it that way cos it stars the python crew as well as Cook, Cheech and Chong, Nigel Planer,Marty Feldman, madeline Kahn and James Mason........ ( In case you couldnt guess I love this flick). So Maybe its not a Python Film, but when you see it, you can see how it could be taken for one.....
