Thought I'd give it a whirl, see what some of the fuss was about.

After spending over 3 hours trying to get the playonline bit of software updated (due to it not connecting, freezing halfway through a file etc etc) I finally get it up and going. Marvellous.

So I install ff11 and the two 'expansion packs'. Great. Create my playonline ID and all that stuff. Wonderful.

Get back into Playonline, choose ff11. Get a content id for the game itself, and then an extra content id for the two packs. Super.

Now..when I hit 'play' on the ff11 screen, I get a dinky error message that goes along the lines of : 'Specified contents not found. Installation of playonline-compatabile software is required'. Not impressed.

Now granted I didnt install anything to the suggested locations, but all the stuff is on d:\Games\PlayOnline\SquareEnix and directories below that (Final Fantasy XI, Playonlineviewer and tetramaster).

Did a quick trawl through the VN technical section under ff11 and the one person who also had this problem never got a reply. Which is fairly typical of the sort of problems I get :/

So..any advice or hints? Rather not reinstall to the suggested locations, my C drive aint that hot on free space :)

Addendum -

I've done a lot of swapping about on my system, and uninstalled everything - then reinstalled from scratch following the standard suggested installation directories. Same problem.

I have content id's for Tetra master, FFXI and both expansion packs. Tetra master appears to work fine, but FFXI just cant seem to start up (when on the FFXI screen through PlayOnline, hitting the 'play' button gives the following error - 'Specified contents not found. Installation of playonline-compatabile software is required' )

After more than 8 hours buggering about I'm not amused. Not a particularly good start to the game.

After much buggering about, it now works. Although I'm not entirely sure which of the following fixed it :

Installation of newest Catalyst drivers for the Radeon 9800 pro
Removal of Data Execution Prevention new security thingummy for SP2, which is causing problems all over the place.
Giving the computer a kick
Reinstallation of PoL with FFXI already installed

Spent just over an hour updating the game which surprised me. Game released in UK yesterday and I had to update over 1200 files out of 1400?

Anyway, had a little run about with a little rogue character, forgot to equip the newbie weapon and ended up dying to the third mob I tried to kill.

yeah the patch is there since there was a patch released _just_ before Chains of Promathia so... :)

Put it this way, you dont have to download the ungodly amount we have to.. the importers that is.. :p

But besides that, never seen that problem at all, nor I dont believe anyone I know has had the same, anyway, have fun, welcome to vana'Diel. :)
