Um... I'd like a 56K modem, please :(

Hmm... I currently have a 56K Conexant HCF Winmodem. Bought it fairly recently as the ad had 'hardware' in it and no mention of 'winmodem'. Bollocks.

Although connection speed seems to be reasonable, I'm suffering from frequent disconnects and probably a lot of other shiteness that I don't know about... so thought I'd treat myself.

Can anyone recomend a nice new shiny hardware modem (internal though, preferably) that'd treat me right?

(Before anyone larfs at me I can't get any flavour cable in my area and I'm not paying that much for ADSL...)

/edit: Found a 'Diamond PCI Pro Hardware V90 Internal V/Fax/Modem' for £34.08. Seems reasonable, I suppose.

Should be OK but I'd ask for some recommendations or search the net for some.

ISDN is coming down in price. The difference for games is incredible (on a good ISP.)

i must endorse that last comment.isdn is so much better than a modem for gaming its not worth mentioning in the same breath.
my last phone bill just went down to £26.00!! that includes all the regular calls too,not just internet.you can add £14.99 to that for bt anytime (which is sometimes bad but not all the time) and it seems pretty reasonable.yeah cable is a bit cheaper but if you cant get it ,it aint no good.
the good thing about isdn to my mind is if your having problems you can simply disconnect and use another isp.you cannot do that with cable or dsl,you just stuck with it.
hope you dont mind me saying this but for an uber-poster like you someguy it seems a lttle odd you got such a pony connection.
maybe you spend more time posting on this gaming forum than playing games?? :)

Heh heh. You're probably right. :D

Right. I'm inspired. I always heard ISDN was crappy for games but I guess times have changed.

Can anybody recommend a good ISDN ISP provider and related hardware? I will go out and search the net for reviews etc, but it's nice to start with a recommendation or two from some trusted gamers. That's how I got my luberly new 19" monitor, after all. :D

Sell it to me, baby!

edit:/ hmm... turned into a 'Broadband' post. I'm in the wrong forum! :( Plus there's loads of info in there so, y'know... like, ignore me.

ISDN - get either the Asus TA or the Eicon Diva (the 50 quid job)

56k - Hayes Accura if you can still find one. The mother of all 56k modems.
