I have two in the stripe. The speed boost using Sandra to test was from 1 drive of 24000 to the two drives which have managed 35000(MAX) but the real impromevent is the way it's quicker to open files etc which is nice
hmm, i have a lot of questions about this... let me number them to aid your answering
1) i have 4 drives on the one RAID card. the way i see it, there's no real way i can get a significant enough speed boost to justify halving the space i have. if i put one from each channel into a stripe, then the data will be coming from either one of the two (or both, if i set them up in a stripe too) on the same channels... and by the laws of data not enjoying going up and down the same ide cable simultaneously (to put it simply) would it actually slow things down?
bah, i spent so much time mulling over that question i forgot the others
Striping alone doesn't halve the space....it combines all the drives to make what looks like one big drive. So you actualy total hard drive space would still be 240GB and then the data is spread amongst all of them...with four hard drives you'll get three times the performance of one.
