I just went out in a tourney in an all-in.
I had AJ, on the flop came J-8-5 of the same coulour as my ace. Some guy went all in, I saw he was one of the all-inners, so figured my hand was strong enough to join in, especially seeing as I had flush-draw. The guy had 9-10 offsuit with a flushdraw (I would win in that case) so the only way he could win was by getting a straight. And of course he gets it on the river :(
Luckily it was just a freeroll :p

Sounds good! :D
I'll look into that, I'm mostly into the bookmaker-part of sites, but freerolls are a great way to get better at poker without losing money ;)

What if you say you're ill and want to be alone? =))

Or a friend of yours needs to talk about something very serious with you (so you can go to an internet café) =)

Would that work?

I really need to learn how to play hold'em properly, everytime I play it on Xbox or watch it on TV I get totally hooked and lose full days at a time.

I've been playing it a bit lately. I've found alot of it is down to bluffing and taking risks.

And thats how generally you lose.....

Anyone can bluff and take risks - the difference is knowing when.

Anyone who says its all luck as well talks through their arse tbh - why else do the same faces pop up at the final tables of major tourneys every year.

2 books worth reading - Super System - Doyle Brunson's book and considered by some the bible of poker (at least it was yrs ago when he wrote it - still good now tho)

The other is Phil Hellmuth's book - the first one he wrote - can't remember the name of it now - mate of mine nicked it ages ago :(

Best way to learn the basics is play freemoney tables - but...and its a big but - its nowhere near the same as playing for money - when its toy money people will call your bluffs down a lot mroe often than if its for real money - but if its for real money - people who know how to play will spot your bluffs more often so you shouldn't try to win money purely by bluffing - online play tight and you rarely come out behind if its cash tables, tourneys tho do require more bluffing and aggresive style - depends on whatcha wanna play really - personally I would rather sit at cash tables for an hour or two and make profit than play a tourney for an hour or two and still come out short of the final standings that pay money...

The step up from free tables is freerolls, as people will get serious towards the finaltable, that way you just have to survive the all-inners and get to the last 30 or so :p

Sorry, I said it in the wrong way, I meant take some of your friends to play poker in a casino, it's great.

No need to go all hostile on me, people like you need to take a step back and calm down a bit, I don't know what it's like in your country but certainly in mine people like you aren't too popular :/

You live in London. There are tournaments every few hours in London, with the amount of casino's.
Even in Nottingham there are tournaments everyday. :(

to solve the problem, play strip poker with your bird. :|

Bull.
It's actually all about value betting your hand.
And about calculating odds on draws, and figuring out other peoples hands/draws and the odds of them hitting, and then placing the right bet to get maximum equity out of it!
It's purely maths, the bluffing is not the most important part.:<
Knowing when a spot/situation where a steal would get the pot unchallenged is just a 6th sense you pick up.

It's defiently not purely maths lol.

I started playing online poker with real money for the first time tonight. I'm up $30 already. I wish I had started this sooner, it's so easy. If I played it enough I could probably make a decent amount of money off of it.

I'm bored, tired and a little drunk - so excuse me if this wasn't completely relevant to the thread.

was playing hold'em btw

Know when to bluff.
Know when to bluff you're bluffing.
Know when to fold.
Know it's part pure luck.
Know it's part knowing the math.
Know you shouldn't play what you're not going to lose smiling.
Know you ARE going to lose.
Know that they know too.

In a nutshell...know your poker.
