Two weeks away and....

Well I'm back from hols and ermmm Eve is more fucked up than when I left :mad:

Guess I'll have to do the same as Shintai is doing to get some fun for my last month given that :

a) Mining is buggered until one of the devs (unspecified) comes back from hols;

b) Agent missions are buggered (as "Papa Smurf" confirmed);

c) The market is still buggered;

d) Local chat is still buggered;

e) People and Places is buggered (in a new way);

f) We have a nice new cap drain bug that kills you;

g) Polaris/GMs are still a complete and utter waste of space;

h) There is zero content. Devs still wittering on about "what's to come" and not realising that people aren't willing to wait another 3 months to play some more even more bug-ridden nonsense that will no doubt have the nerfing sledgehammer applied to it :rolleyes:

So - nothing major fixed since I went on hols; a few new (nasty) bugs; Polaris/GMs still being arseholes; and server population way down on a month ago.

I think that about sums it up for anyone who isn't a diehard fanboy and can look at this with some degree of detachment.

Game over peeps - and this one is dead by Christmas (I'd be willing to put money on that!).

Tis a shame as this game could have been truly great but that's the way things go. I think I'll turn to PvP for my last month just to use up my ships and have a laugh :D

Not quite true, there's plenty of full respawned roids around if you are prepared to look for them, but yes, the respawn bug is a pain in the arse :)

c) The market is still buggered;

In what sense?

d) Local chat is still buggered;

It's less buggered than what it was, still needs fixing tho however I don't see this as a criticial issue.

e) People and Places is buggered (in a new way);

Ah yes, the reintroduction of online/offline indicators. If you find yours goes apeshit (ie showing everyone online), to get around it temporarily, just add a new bod to your list, then delete them. I find that this kicks the indicators back into life.

f) We have a nice new cap drain bug that kills you;

Heh, I noticed this when firing one AB took half my cap. A quick logout/in sorts this tho.

h) There is zero content. Devs still wittering on about "what's to come" and not realising that people aren't willing to wait another 3 months to play some more even more bug-ridden nonsense that will no doubt have the nerfing sledgehammer applied to it :rolleyes:

If there was zero content, there would be absolutely NOTHING to do ;) Granted, there's been no "additional" content added yet, but personally, I'd like to see them fix existing issues before adding new stuff.

So - nothing major fixed since I went on hols; a few new (nasty) bugs; Polaris/GMs still being arseholes; and server population way down on a month ago.

Also not quite true - research/factory slots have been fixed, which was a major issue :) As for server population, it's not way down whatsoever. Sunday is the peak day for Eve, and last nite it peaked it 5733 - with the max ever recorded peak being approx 6300 (sometime in June).

I think that about sums it up for anyone who isn't a diehard fanboy and can look at this with some degree of detachment.

I'm not a diehard fanboy, but there's still more than enough in this game to keep me interested until things really start to kick off.

As for it being dead by Christmas, I'll put 50quid on it being alive and well then :)

Tis a shame as this game could have been truly great but that's the way things go. I think I'll turn to PvP for my last month just to use up my ships and have a laugh :D

Ah right, so because you've given up on the game now, you are going to potentially spoil other peeps fun until your account time runs out? Or are you gonna do something useful and go hunt PC pirates? :)

Jase - mining is buggered. It's not just the rares that aren't respawning which makes it damn hard for anyone starting the game to get anywhere. I recently went through my old "starting area" and there's hardly any pyro, never mind omber.

The market is still buggered in the sense that it gives incorrect info for supply/demand. Eg - It says "Station X" has a demand for an item when in fact it doesn't (and never has). It's pretty widespread and really does bugger up the casual trader. Of course it's buggered in another way too which means people who do nothing but trade can essentially print money ;)

Local chat is every bit as buggered as it was - no fix has yet been applied to this (confirmed by devs). Oh and it's fairly critical if you do a lot of travelling in Empire space as you have to keep relogging. 50+ people in local has a tendency to lag you to hell - never mind keeping an eye out for PK'ers in local :)

I'll give the P&P thing a try, but I find that if anyone comes online/goes offline then they all show the same status. I have enough "buddies" (mainly PC pirates that I keep an eye on) to make this extremely annoying.

Re cap bug - try logging in/out when PC pirates are around :D

Re content : there really isn't an awful lot to do Jase. I agree with you about fixing existing bugs but lets be quite honest about it - they really haven't fixed very much so far. They bugger around with cosmetic issues and introduce bugs by doing so while totally ignoring bugs that have been present since day 1 (local is a good example of this). I do understand the complexity of debugging but come on - the first 2 months should have been the point at which they clean this up, not add crap like billboards. There's also some worrying things - eg from the recent chat it seems that Tomb has all the balancing "in his head" and nobody else has a clue about it! Ditto the guy who deals with skills (and is sick so no fixes to skill bugs for a while). Not the way that any sort of s/w project should be run :(

Re server population : at the times I play I take a mental note of it when logging/relogging. On average it is down by 20% since June and 10% since I went on hols. Sorry mate but that is what I see :) Perhaps it's down to people being on hols but judging from the forums there's a good few peeps leaving and there doesn't seem to be that many joining :( I know forums aren't that representative but they're pretty much the only info anyone thinking of buying Eve has to go on.

Re me "spoiling" other people's "fun" : all that is really left to do in the game is PvP mate. Shintai is having fun by declaring war on TTI (and my God their whinges are hysterical), so I'll probably do the same (setup a one man corp and declare war on a megacorp). I've tried the PC pirates but to be frank most of them are idiots who are easier to kill than npc pirates :D There are some notable exceptions and I still have some unfinished business with a couple of m0o members which should be fun :)

I really want to keep playing this game as it has so much potential but I seriously doubt CCP can deliver enough in a quick enough timescale (subs run out in Sept) to keep my attention. I don't think I'm that demanding or unusual which makes me fear that the game is going to go rapidly downhill in terms of population.

Still, a storyline appears to be starting so we'll see where that leads......

Oh and it appears that the publishers are now desperate enough to not only offer the game to US cable providers at a "discount" but also :

"Once subscribers sign up for EVE through the promotion, the cable system will begin to share revenue from the monthly fees that are collected by CCP Games"

Evegate has the full press release and after reading through it I have to say that this is a "this product is heading for the bargain bin but we're not ready to admit it yet as some of us are going to get sacked if we do" press release ;)

Who knows - it may work, but it has the feeling of a "last chance saloon" to me :(

See this is part of what pisses me off about this game (and if I didn't want to play it I wouldn't post - like Planetside).

They break things and they know they have - like the market weeks ago where they changed the interface so that you had to move the mouse one pixel at a time to get a vague clue where to sell anything. Mass outcry - did they do anything? Well yes they did. Two weeks later! There's two market exploits to do with trading that they're aware of - have they fixed them? Heh - what do you think? Not naming names but does anyone remember a corp who "bragged" about two members using "part of their wealth" to buy a BS blueprint? Draw your own conclusions. You may remember that was a month or so ago as well?

The whole m0o thing in Mara/Passari came about because of code flaws regarding mod/skill stacking. Did they address this and fix it promptly. No. So we had GM's trying (badly) to roleplay and then when that didn't work they teleported m0o across the universe. m0o came back so the devs eventually nerfed pirating (and sec status) when all that was really needed was for the skills and weapon/mods balancing to be sorted. So for four weeks or so people got essentially raped by m0o. Want to know something even funnier? Many of the people in m0o at that time were part of "End of Eve" in beta and they told the devs the problems and said they were going to make it an issue in retail! Well they sure did that eh?

Now we have the ludicrous situation where someone called "Antichrist" has had his name changed by one of the Polaris/GM's to "Loving Jesus". Yep it is rather amusing but since he was never informed that his chosen name was a problem then it is very unprofessional. That's what you get when first-line support are unpaid volunteers :rolleyes:

I really want to give up on this bloody game but I can see the potential of it so I keep trying :( Unfortunately I can see this bleeding away due to dumb decisions by the devs (partially due to a lack of manpower I'm sure) and support that is not far off what you'd get if you posted to the "General" forum on BW :D

Well I have put the game on the shelf and cancelled my subs. This is not to say I have given up on the game at all. When/If they sort it out I will reinstate my subscription, so i still watch the boards, news sites and maybe 1 day the game will be worth my hard earned cash and playing hours.

Who knows, If CCP do sort this game out and make some kind of deal like 10 free days to all players, even those who cancelled (ala Jumpgate) they might spark interest again.

Looks like that's about all of us then Custy (apart from Jase). I have a bit over a month to go until my subs run out and am now donating ships/equipment/ISK to a guy called Nemi Lethal. He's trying to actually put some fun into the game by running little "events" which have real prizes at the end of them. He's bored senseless too :D

Looking at the log of tonight's CSM (regarding storyline timescales and new tech) I would have to say that CCP (devs) are unaware of just how many people are getting really bored. Just about everyone I speak to in-game is at the stage of "what now?" They aren't going to wait for another 2-3 months for all the "vapourware" currently being discussed - they'll do what you have and put the game on a shelf. Problem is that I suspect this game doesn't have many more than 25,000 subscribers (if that) and if, say, 20% of them do as you (and the rest of us in here) have done then the game is toast. Customer service that makes SOE look like stars doesn't exactly help either :rolleyes: I honestly don't think the devs have a clue how dissatisfied a large section of the player population is - both with the game and customer "service". I think the publishers however do realise this - hence the "discount and we'll share revenues" deal they're trying to do with some of the smaller US cable providers to try and ameliorate the churn.

I think I'm going to do what more and more corps/freelancers seem to be doing - go and kill people :D There's quite honestly nothing else left to do that I haven't done umpteen times before and I may as well try to have some fun in the last month. If that ruins someone else's day, well tough shit - it's a PvP game with all that entails. Heh and this is the very last thing I thought I would have done when I started this game.....
