Are you ready for The Two Towers?

Two Towers Quiz

You scored 8 out of a possible 10
Solid. You know enough about The Two Towers to know what's coming, yet little enough to leave some scope for surprises. Which is just as it should be

Whats wrong with LOTR??

Sky Movies critic Sandro Manetti gushed that chapter two of the Tolkien epic is "even better than the first Lord of the Rings movie... There is no quiet beginning or setting the scene this time. It's straight into the action from the start and there's no let up for the next three hours. Peter Jackson captures some of the most ferocious battle scenes ever put on film and puts his camera right in among the blood and guts."

Meanwhile the Ain't It Cool News website was awash with glowing reviews from punters who attended last night's MTV Movie House screening. "The sheer scope of the film is astonishing," writes one. "It feels much bigger than Fellowship ever did. Everything is much darker. Where Fellowship was green and earthy, The Two Towers is brown and muddy. The whole film has a real intensity to it."

This is gonna be better than Star Wars!

The only one I got wrong was the one about the actors, which has no relevence to how much I know the book. Ridiculous.

The book was shit, anyway.

Same here.

*embarrassed*

Then again, I have just read the book, so that's kind of an excuse...isn't it?

Guess comic books are your kind of thing then, hm?
Poorly drawn mangas most likely...

I think the book, whilst helping to define the realms of fantasy, was badly written. I've read alot of books in my time and although i prevailed and read all three LoTR books, i still found them crap. Good story though :D

Just because someone doesn't like LOTR doesn't mean they don't read.

The Outsider = winnar.

It's certainly not an easy read but to classify a piece of modern literature as shit - as a one word review so to say - is a bit poor.

And that's putting it nicely.

It's his opinion, and usually Kez is pretty blunt with them.

Lord Of The Rings is probably one of the most boring sagas that modern literature faces. In trying to enrich his novels, Tolkien makes us endure chapter upon chapter of description that leads nowhere but the pit of adjective despair. The story he tells is original - I'll grant it that, it did afterall create half the dross fantasy now takes for granted - but horrendously slow moving, and meanders between groups of people in a truely baffling fashion. I do believe thats mostly to do with how he sent them to his son on the battlefield in short bursts or whatever, though.
And the italics, oh the italics. Riddled through-out the book, they are at best an irritating diversion in Johnny Foreigner speech, and at worst a clumsy piece of story-telling that envelopes the reader in the warm glow of downright fury.

Beautiful indeed. A work of mastery. Yes.

Of course, the film is in all likelihood going to be better than the book, it is afterall able to draw on the ridiculous attention to boring detail Tolkien's original gave us; and the battle sequences might actually occur, rather than just three-or-so chapters of build up, and two sentences at the end of them to reveal the actual fighting. Both of which will be within a three hour timeframe.

Blunt. Indeed. Yes. I am the money. I could go on, but you know, there's this whole realm of my own tragic criticism I don't want to go into. Brrgh etc.

I liked it but have to agree with kez, its the not the best written book in the world. I don't think its a bad as kez makes out though. His review only, IMHO, applies to the first book.

Got 9/10 got the "What is the name of the court of King Theoden of Rohan? " question wrong. I answered a bit too fast.. I saw helms deep and thought 'Oh yes thats it!' :(

10/10

:geek:

PS: Kez is partly synchronous with my own opinion.

Tolkien's story was excellent, but his writing was turgid. The best part of the book was the middle third - mostly covered by this upcoming film. Damn pity Shelob's not gonna be on film till next year though :/

I think it is an excellent book. Not the best ever written, but excellent nontheless.
However , most of these statements, like your kez, as an example, start with "this book is " or whatever. At the end of the day, it's purely subjective, if you like something, its good ,to you, and if you don't its bad also only to you.
But to say Lord Of The Rings is probably one of the most boring sagas that modern literature faces. , for example ,is not fact, just an opinion, yours. You're welcome to it mate, but its not the only one ;) Perhaps it may come over better if it started "I think" or " IMO" ?
