Twisting chants

Can anyone tell me what are the benefits of chant twisting, and how do you do it?

If this is for a Paladin then the basics go like this

Onto your hotbar (pref the one with the styles that require no opening) put the chants for Strength, Defence and Refreshment (in that order).

When you engage in an attack click the required style followed by Strength followed by Defence followed by Refresh. This needs to be done quickly one after the other with no pauses (hence the same hot bar).

You will then produce a spectacular light show.. hit as hard as possible, get a bonus to defence and then return to your standard refresh.

Warning this takes loads of endurance so once on opening is normaly enough.

If you are in a group then miss out the Refreshment uneless you want ALL the agro.

Hope this helps.

Some people twist, others do not.
Personally, I almost never twist a lot in a fight.
Opening with damage chant on to get one or two nice initial hits out. For the rest, I usually switch to AF chant (on rare occasions a heal in between) because it raises my AF for around 200 now significantly reducing damage.

Like this, I save up on endurance to perform my styles. When it goes very bad, this leaves me the chance to perform stun style and switch to heal chant while walking back and switching back to AF when the mob loses in again.

In groups, dont twist, I suggest using AF a lot to save downtime on healers. When things go chaotic or bad, switch to heal to, or let the healers concentrate on you to heal since you draw all agro while the tanks deal out damage and regen health, or to draw agro and die while the rest run / finish the job or at least a cleric gets away (in the worst case scenario).

Don't go advertising the last one since its only for emergency situations :p

For group play you should be running non-stop heal, it reduces downtime and saves uneccessary casters deaths much much more than armour or damage.
As for taking all the aggro... you're a tank, you're MEANT to take the fricken aggro in a fight! Which is better the mob beating you or the mob beating your casters / clerics? Not to mention, there should only be one mob on you for most of a fight (at least if your CC is competent).
If you want to cut healer downtime group a minstrel and theurgist for powersong and pbt, it's a lot safer than risking needless deaths by not running healchant.

Not always Dannyn.
First of all, we dont always have CC available and if you play it right, mobs still wont reach your casters. Performing an e.g. double chain, we often have 1/2 of the tanks on inc one and 1/2 on inc two. Having AF chant reduces overall damage very well.
Instead of having one healer drain himself completely on healing you, they can now relax a bit, heal now and then and even join the fight :) -I know ours like that :) -

Heal chant btw does not automatically draw agro sometimes.
Lots of occasions where you have to hit a mob while having heal on just to draw its attention. It's like yelling 'Hey you stupid bum ... here the heal chant' :)

As for taking agro ... I'm certainly not afraid of that :p Ask anyone in my guild for that. I'll gladly take all agro and eat grass if needed so. But then, some pallies may use their chants differently. I just answered to the question from my pov and experiences and certainly do not advice any pally to never take agro or anything like that. If you had bad experiences with that ... maybe you met the wrong pally :p

One thing you should know if you are soloing is you can still twist your chants even though you are out of end, so might be worth styling the mob first, then switch to twisting once you are ooe.
