There's a nice and effective tweak... That is: "GET ISDN" at least...
Tweaking up a modem will only result in a gain of 5%-10%... not much, me thinks.

That depends. Sometimes if u have really bad settings it can cause pings to be 1000-ish. I know, I had to play on an untweaked one a few weeks ago when my box with ISDN card blew up.
I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that bad as I used to get 100-ish ping on the same modem (in a previous comp) and same line and BW-dialup to BW-servers back in my QW days.
I'm pretty sure I could have got 150-200-ish in UT with tweaking like most UK players with decent modem can. Unfortunately that's the only time I've ever played UT on a modem and I'm not keen to go back to it to re-tweak after that experience so I can't help

you didn't say what kind of modem but if you have dsl I know sites with better info on that.
It helps your ping no tweak for lag wel one actually the faster the connection the less lag you have. no hard or software tweaks for lag just incase you might think there is one.
