Can anyone help with this,

Since I starting "tweaking" the rate and pushlatency settings for Counter-Strike my ping has dropped from about 200 to 330! I've been adjusting it since then but it won't budge from around 300.

Does anyone know the defualt config.cfg and auto.exex settings for Counter-Strike so I can reset everying?

Also which congif.cfg file should I be adjusting? I think there are three; one in the halflife directory, another in the halflife/valve directory and another in the halflife/counterstrike directory. Cheers.

The config file in the counterstrike directory is the file you should be "tweaking".

As for the "Default", you may need to reinstall to gain the default - or you could try deleting the Config.CFG file and starting the game again - it may create a new one with the default.

On second thoughts - may be just rename the CFG file.

push latency has been taken out in 1.1, changing it will do nothing it is locked at a default. Never change your settings till u have read a good few guides, and always backup.

Thanks, I have read some tweak guides for Counter Strike and they often seem to contradict each other. On the advise of one giude I put an auto.exec file in the CounterStrike folder with just rate and pushlatency values, anyone done this?

If, like you say Squally, the pushlatency is locked in 1.1 then why do people still bang on about changing it?

Another moot point is if the config file in the halflife/valve folder must also be changed to affect CounterStrike. This file also has an entry for the rate which is set at "5000.000000"

I also tried adding the pushlatency command to the autoexec.cfg file.

Net result was that I ALWAYS failed to connect to ANY servers.

once I took that command line out, everything workout fine.

Still shite at CS though

Oi I aint Squally ffs.

Heheh okay, well I started tweaking only in 1.0 and that was with SAS's own tweak guide here at BW I did some basic pushlatency and rate, cmdrate and updrate tweaks -improved my ping a little. Next I did some modem and connection tweaking at www.laggles.com and http://www.planetmaniac.co.uk.

Okay I needed more so I looked at all the links for guides in other guides, did lots of graphical tweaking etc.

When 1.1 came out many people were slow to update their guides, or just did not bother. The best combination of guides to use are SAS's and savageUC conenction guide and the only guide I have found that ncovers 1.1 in detail and knows what settings are and are not still there 3dspotlight cs/hl tweak guide.

Bascially the last guide is accurate for 1.1, there is a mention of pushlatency in SAS's guide -basically ignore it the rest of the info is valid.

A good guide for tweaking graphicall elements is 3drage cs tweak guide. This guide should only be used for gfx tweaking, its out of date for everything else. Also ignore the commands it tells you will improve your aim by removing bob and weave -they result in graphical flaws such as your crosshair being off center.

Ohh yes and pushlatency is definetly not there, its just lazy people that dont bother updating sites or researching.

Big hub hub on cs.net forums when 1.1 came out lots of modem users complaining about the removal of push latency. Dont beleive me? Give me some time i will be back with proof.
