Hmm i still wonder why its deemed illegal to post links to pirate sites etc.. Its not like FH is doing anything illegal by allowing people to discuss stuff like that - i its illegal to HOST stuff, not to link to it - which is what FH technically would be doing in the worst case...

Any good reason? :)

Maybe FH doesnt want its name associated with websites which host illegal content, and therefore risking being charged with promoting such sites? No amount of disclaimers can rid you of personal responsibility.

The number of websites which have disclaimers like "this website is not responsible for any of the content provided on the links below, neither does it promote or support such websites but is merely a service, providing access" is crazy, and it really does my head in. Its like firing a gun, but claiming you arent responsible because you had your eyes closed =)

Only reason I miss tv links, is because of its documentary and old cartoons.

All the new stuff I get from other sources.

the DVA estimate 459m quid were lost last year coz of sites?

WELL TOUGH SHIT!!... if they lowered prices for dvd's (seriously.. 3 dvd's in a box cost WHAT to make? and they sell them for £25)

sites like that exist because the public are sick of being ripped off with extortionate prices.

459m to tv and movie industry is fuck all tbh.. and ofc they forgetting stuff like this..

I watch Heroes on wed night on bbc2... heard a lot of hype about it from friends watching it on sites... and im sure im not the only one, had i not have heard good things about it.. prolly wouldnt have bothered as i aint a fan of US drama series (Lost being an example.. ten thousand mile high pile of shit that is)

so basically they getting advertising and recommendations because of these sites... something that increases demand when they syndicate series to other countries. so its kind of like advertising really.. and if peeps are REALLY fans of shows.. they WILL STILL buy the DVD's anyway.. even at daft prices.

i can watch any episode of south park i want on the net.. but i still get the series boxed sets.. (when they on special offer ofc ;) )

Sometimes reading a web link pays off....

That Site Megadave posted said:
"Sites such as TV Links contribute to and profit from copyright infringement by identifying, posting, organising, and indexing links to infringing content found on the internet that users can then view on demand by visiting these illegal sites," said a spokesman for Fact.

I mean it costs like 20p or something for these companies to make a DvD, and then they charge shit loads to by them, so no wonder these sites exist. "sites such as TV Links allowed people to break UK copyright law." well boo-hoo, Copyright law only exists so that record companies etc can sell everything st such high prices, and only give about 3p back to the actual bands and people who made it, thats the reason bands like NIN and Radiohead are breaking away from these companies, and going fully independent.

That's how much it might cost to actually produce the disk (I think your probably actually high with 20p), your forgetting the money involved in actually producing the content they want to put on it.

While DVD's come out at £15 or whatever, they rarely stay at those prices for long and getting the "must have it on the day of release" customers means that's probably a fair opening price. What they should do is reduce the price much more quickly to £4 or £5 after it's been out a month.

I actually think most people have just got spoiled with the "have everything you ever want for free" culture that's currently about. They could sell DvD's for £2 10 minutes after it stopped being shown in the cinema's and 99% of people bitching about the price of them would still download it for free!

Don't you have to be some mad dvd seller that comes into the pub and sells 2 for a fiver to get arrested and charged ?

Do they actually look for people who download the odd (hundred) mp3 or the odd movie. If so, see you in a few years.

nah it says in the article they arent arsed about people who download a few songs, its the people downloading it and selling it on, like copy CD's/DvD's

It isn't cheap (in the most part) to produce the content though, its not about the format. Anyway, DL stuff but remember that if companies don't make money they wont make content. Reward the companies that make decent stuff by paying for it, fuck the rest of them, if its average DL it.

Its not the record companies, who get nearly all the money from the sales, that make the content, thats done by the bands themselves, the most the record companies do is publicity for new bands. The bands themselves main source of income is merchandising from tours and the like, they get so little from the actually sale of the records. Thats the reason Radiohead have released the free (you can make donations though) DL of their latest album, they won't make anymore money doing it through a record company.

Its not just music though, games, films, TV series, software etc all cost a lot to make which is why those that do produce decent stuff should get rewarded so that they make more good stuff, hopefully those that make crap are forced out of business.

It's one of the main reasons that I think the music industry is the way it is at the moment.
Record companies are only signing up bands that appeal to a certain demographic, (young teenage girls) since they are the people at the moment who are actually likely to buy the albums.
Bands that your average student likes arn't worth signing since anything they produce is just going to be downloaded for free by their fan base.

People then whine for ages about how the music industry is full of crap, unaware that it's their own doing. Why bother advertising and marketing a band that's going to make you no money?

It's probably not so important for the music industry since bands will form and release their stuff anyway. For movies where producing the content takes several million pounds, what you'll find starts to happen is the types of movies you enjoy will just stop getting made and everything that comes out will be aimed solely at your average teenage girl who's still purchasing the DVD's.. Is this really what you want to happen?
I agree that spending money on stuff that's crap isn't worth it, but it is worth spending money on stuff you actually enjoy, in order to ensure that they make more of it in future.

Downloading movies is shit anyways. I don't steel my clothes aswell tbh, even if they're much too expensive, considering some are made in Bangladesh or whatever...

I have a good amount of DVD's and CD's and I'm rather proud that I'm not some downloader. If you can't afford it......cry me a river :p
