Err, just a question really - if you have no TV's in your house, but have a TV card - do you have to pay a TV license? And whats more - can they detect you if you don't? :)

hmmm...

I used to have a TV card and if I remember rightly it does fall under the TV license. (Unfortunatley). As for detecting it.

I'm not too sure.

Afaik TV detectors work by detecting the radiation your TV gives off. As monitors give off a different radiation signiture they shouldn't be able to find you.
But then again, £100 isn't too much to pay for quality TV programming *cough cough*

Hope that helps a bit.

As far as I'm aware they find TV license evaders by cross-referencing TV sales with license lists and stuff like that. Detector vans are more for show really, to frighten gullible ppl and not particularly effective. Anyway, according to the law a TV card means u need a TV license (at least I seem to remember it saying that on the Reg.)

We got cought without a TV license when I was at uni, a few years a go. They cam knocking at the door at some ungodly hour (around 7.30 or 8 in the morning) my flatmate answered the door half sleep and cracked under pressure and told the guy we had a TV and no license. We didn't pay a fine though even though he reported us, we claimed we hadn't recived direct debit forms. So we paid the license fee after that.

May be we should have sent for the direct debit forms first.

p.s
How can you not have a TV in your house. Isn't that illigal or immorall or something?

You should have a backup video of a fried chicken turning round, so you can say the TV is your microwave :D

Yes, if you have a tv card, you do need a tv license... My missus bought a tv, and about a week later we got a letter saying they'd been told we've bought either a tv or a tv card for a pc...
