Tution Fees and top up fees (again)

Can somone please explain top up fees to me as im not making any sense of the various websites on the issue.

basically, just about every uni in the country is gonna charge you 3k to do the course, per year. (full time)

and thats it.

ya but with top up fees as of 2006-2007 academic year you get a loan and pay it off after graduation with 0 interest rather than the currant system were you pay it all off at the start....right?

since ive been going to uni (2006 - present) its worked like this -

you apply for a maintenance loan, usually about 1.5k or something if you live at home etc. now you can also apply for a loan to pay the fees, in which case the student loans company pay your uni directly the fees.

once your degree is finished, any job where you earn 16k (I THINK) a year, you pay back about 5.70 a week. that covers both the maintenance loan and the loan for the fees.

when you apply for loan you can apply for two now, maintenance and/or tuition loan, the tuition loan goes straight to the uni meaning no faffing about with more forms and you pay it back once you start working and earning over a certain amount, interest rates are set to rate of inflation so its kinda free

Alternativley, try pretend to be Scottish and apply to one of our Universites. We dont have top up fees for Scots, but we are blatently discrimanitve to the rest of the UK
