a guy who used to host both servers for us said TS got much more friendlier server side stuff. he liked it because of that.

Ofc many people use an older version, get Ventrilo Mix, will let you use both versions, and TS... Think this is a link to it, though I havent checked it, as i just digged it up for you people

Ive used both for a while... i prefer Teamspeak. But the question is silly, its like asking whats better; vanilla or chocolate icecream. Its just a matter of experiences with the programs and personal preferences.

come on my ts server and say that. only reason any one wud get bad sound quality on a ts server is if the channel you in is using a crap codex.

use speedx 12.6 or 16.5 and better quality than the new vent, and less bandwidth used = less lag while pwning your noobies arses in rvr

however, the new vent does have nice quality, but has more band width usage then ts2.

i hosted a ts2 server for one week, and then a vent one and logged the bandwidth use tru the hole time, and the ts2 server was over 75% less bandwidth usage.

ts2 is easy to setup, and also offer mysql support, (for extra stuff like timed ban's/kicks, auto logging, autoop/voice.channel commander, however you use these things you need to know mysql, and there are optional)

vent on other hand is a little harder to setup, works more than ts2 also, (meaning when i run ts2 server i only have 10% cpu usage, and vent i have 40% usage.

edit : the server side stuff on TS is so much easyer, all done from one webapge, and vent is sooooo complated it's unreal.

find TS server side to be a pain, I simply deleted it cause of the server side. With ventrilo you just edit the *.ini and voila

The only time I've been on TS2 made me cry irl.

Maybe it was the server, but the quality was uber fucked up, ppl were constantly breaking off and TS seems to have a bug with having mousebutton as push to talk. It kept me transmitting, like the button was stuck or something.

I use right mouse for ventrilo as well and it doesn't get stuck there, so must be TS2. Had to tab from DAOC to check if I was bugging so I wouldn't annoy others by cursing in Finnish etc what wasn't meant to be said on the channel.

So conclusion: old ventrilo > any shitty TS2.

After downloading VentriloMIX and doing testing, it seems that Ventrilo has much better voice quality. TeamSpeak 2 just doesn't do that well, even with higher settings of the Speex codec - the voices just don't sound as clear as they do with Ventrilo.

Ventrilo seems to use GSM 6.10 (11 KHz, 16 bit) 2210 bytes/sec, by default. Some testing with Speex (16 KHz, 16 bit, 5 Qlty) 2188 bytes/sec, which seems similar to the default for bandwidth usage showed even better quality. Sadly the codec used for Ventrilo is a per server config value which the admin sets, so different channels on the same server can't be setup for users with lower connections. Also the Speex codecs are only available in the latest version of Ventrilo, the old 2.1 version which we tend to use most supports fewer codecs.

Server support, TeamSpeak wins easily. It is far more configurable, has a good web interface and is database powered. Also the 8 player limit on the latest versions of Ventrilo forces people to use an older version if they want to host a decent free server on their own server/connection!

For those wanting to sell servers, Ventrilo requires 1000 slots minimum at $0.10 per slot ($100/month), TeamSpeak requires 100 slots minimum at $0.14 per slot ($14/month). The license for Ventrilo seems quite evil compared to the TeamSpeak license.

If TeamSpeak ever comes up with a better client, it might be worth considering. Until then, Ventrilo has far better quality - even if the restrictions are evil and the owner seems to be a complete arsehole.

Vent anyday tbh, the new vent rocks for quality.

Server side vent is easy too, i ran a vent server off my second pc with 256kbps upload for our guild for a while and it didn't suck all the bandwidth and didn't lag much.

Also tried TS2, but preferred vent

i see the point i asking that couse wanna rent a server 4 my guild on pvp
i use TS2 on my swg clan ( a payed server 65 ping all the time )
now on daoc all rvr guilds have vent but each of them have a diferent version and all say " my version is the best "

new version of vent is by far the better
but you dont have to pay liscencing per user on the old version 2.1.x since it doesnt have a 8 person limit

still using old 2.1.4 (ish..) ventrilo because server needs room for more than 8 users and I was even more annoyed that I can't change away from default port on the new ventrilo (unless I pay? do they take plats?) .. cba to setup some sort of port redirecting
