Trouble connecting to games since upgrading CS

i have the retail version of cs and i have been having trouble connecting to games ever since I installed the patch. :(

It happens more when I use CS to connect to games. an error box comes up saying "error: could not complete connection" this then appears immediately after double clicking on any server. I then have to quit CS completely and restart it, and usually it will work fine again.

Also when I play a game and quit out of it I get a windows warning box saying the game has crashed due to a *.dll file and when I go back to windows my desktop is back to 640x480 (very annoying :upyours: )

I just wondered if anyone else had these problems or if anyone knew how to fix it?

Regularly get the first problem you highlighted.

It appears that the first time you connect to a server and it then bombs you out, it seems to think you are still connected to a multiplayer game. (as you exit the 2nd menu it asks for confirmation of exiting your multiplayer game, even though there is no disconnect option on the menu)

If you go back to the main menu (without exiting CS) and then try again it usually works.

I take it you have the latest patches et al.

What u need to do is get gamepsy or pingtool.

These browser tools are better becuase if they fail a connection attempt they dump u back to the console so u can retry.

Also with features like busy redial and ability to add other master servers, you'll never look at the shitty HL browser again :)

Err if u really are insistant on using HL to connect, try joining a server from the console (connect xx.xxx.xx.xx:xxxx) and this will also let u use the /retry command to try and reconnect.

Thanks for the advice

i already use gamespy and get a similar problem. I can never get connected on the first attempt, i always have to type retry at least once.

This isnt a big problem, its more of an annoyance when im trying to nip in on a server thats at 17/18 ppl. ;) and by the second retry attempt server is full :(

Your lucky if you ever get on a server if your on a gamespy retry:eek:

Best bet is to launch the game, then just type retry, and sit there hammering the arrow key and enter. Somebody said in another thread that you can bind an 'F' key to do the task in one, makes it more easy i spose. I could never be botherd to bind it:p

Funny, I've had the same sort of problems recently - connection attempts are timing out, and WON authentication seems to crash my PC! Hardware reset required. Any ideas? Already reinstalling Counterstrike and formatted its drive, other games don't have the same connection problems.
