Looking for a tripod, good quality but I dont want anything massive. Something like 1.5m max height would be good.

Any of you tarts got something to recommend? Dont mind spending a few quid.

What's going on top of it? Weight-wise...

And depending on the use you have in mind, you have to consider a head of some sort to go between the 'pod and the camera.

And how much is a few quid. :)

General purpose photography. Nothing special - timer shots of me and groups or just a nice steady photo of some scenery if I'm out and about - perhaps a bit of video too. Basically general dossing about with.

Does lightweight and compactibility interest you?

I've got three tripods, not one of them does everything I need. For a camera like yours, what about:

Velbon Ultra Maxi L Tripod with Panhead £49 offer rate

It's less than 1kg, it's 152.5 cms maximum height, it folds up to a compact 36cms and has an easy to use 'twist and lock' mechanism on the legs. I have one of these and it's my staple light travel tripod. It's no use for heavy duty long exposures or heavy cameras, but I can't complain about it at all. It also doesn't break the bank, you can spend several hundred on a carbon fibre jobby.

I have a Vinten Cygnet post head.

That's not mine (mine is in much nicer condition). It has stainless steel telescopic legs and everything :)

No good for photography though!

That looks like a trap from Indiana Jones.

Aye but they don't quite tick boxes like that Velbon does

when I went to photography school, Manfrotto was the shit. Heavy as fuck, but they had the best and most interchangeable hydraulic heads.
