To paraphrase niCo from another thread...

"Only newbies and snobs use a GeForce vid card for a Glide game".

Tribes is first and foremost a Glide game. That means 3DFX Voodoo cards. OpenGL was added in a later patch so that everyone without a Voodoo card could play the thing. There's the problem. However, I'm not going to go on about that

I've heard a lot of people say that using the latest nVidia drivers is a bad idea and to use the ones immediately previous to the current release (ver 5.22?). I wouldn't know as I have a TNT2 and twin Voodoo2's in my box. Best of both worlds! :)

If by tearing u mean the bottom of the bases look like a saw?

I found a way round it...put yer desktop into 32-bit colours...

U suffer a little with framerate but then the saw effect and see thro bases no longer appear

Well, I think it depends on the rest of your hardware aswell. I have played on a p3 650 with g-force, and it worked out great.

2*V2's is far better than a geForce for tribes. I have a single V2 and it outperforms my geForce.

Fusion has a GeForce DDR and an Athlon 700 and I have a PIII 728 and GeForce2 GTS. We both have 100+ fps

I wouldn’t swap my geforce for a V2 SLI or even a V5500, glide is dead bring on T2.

That sounds wierd.
It's true that the GeForce *can* give you insanely high fps, like inside the base on Broadside. I get over 100 there too. Outside it goes pretty well too UNTIL some obstacles (players, turrets, etc) starts showing up. Then fps drops considerably. V2's fps is more stable and keeps about the same fps nomatter where and what. I still use my V2 cause its faster. I really did give my geforce a chance. Even tested different settings cause I had trouble believing it sucked so bad with Tribes

My geforce gives me great fps on most maps using the latest drivers, but i do find some of the user made maps are crap on it - god knows why.

I have a Celeron 500Mhz. I know the cpu means alot (at least I had a good fps increase when I went from 300Mhz->500Mhz) Maybe that can explain Fusions and Zachs case. But I will still suspect that their fps will get very low when there's lots of action around. (correct me if I'm wron plz).

I think the CPU is probably all important.
After seeing how rock solid silky smooth Tribes is on Cuba's P3-800/V3, compared with my Celeron 450/V3 (my jaw seriously hit the floor at how smooth it was) I've come to the conclusion that CPU speed is god for tribes framerates.

As glide/voodoo cards are the best for tribes, anyone wanna swap 2 voodoo2 cards for a geforce ddr? :D
