Tribes CTF maps on our servers

I've been running through a bunch of maps with MikeyBear and we've come up with a shortlist of new maps we'd like to try out. All are server side only of course (what a game!) and we think all should go down well with you all.

As DBs is away on his hols and no one else has any access to the game servers I cant get the maps up yet, but I wondered if anyone else had any suggestions for maps we should run.
Heres the list we've some up with so far.

Jumpzone
Skizone
Twin Towers
Valley_of_Death
Hoverpoint
Tale of 2 Bases
Intersection
WooHooWalkAbout
Airwars
AirWars2 (Midspace)
Dropzone2
Equino_X

I was actually thinking of replacing the existing map cycle altogether.
Maybe some maps from the existing cycle should be kept in? Any suggestions?

I'd like to trial run these maps on a Saturday night when we have an extra server to play with. Was gonna set the time limit low (say 20 mins) to get through them and try out as many as possible.

Gimme feedback guys and gals!

Oh, by the way, if you suggest a map please make sure its server side only and also provide a link to it so I can go and get it.

Hmm, not sure about dropping the entire current maps, the reason barrys' tribes server are so good is because of the maps currently running, no nonsense about broadside running immediately after blastside a la wireplay.

Still, some new maps would be fun, but keep the best old ones (rollercoaster, scarabrae, etc) too pls

Yeah, to be honest I'd like to keep a few of the current maps too.
I kinda like these:

Broadside
Rollercoaster
Dangerous Crossing
Stonehenge
Raindance
Iceridge
Scarabrae
Snowblind

Think its ok to drop Deathcoaster (crap map extrordinaire), Dropzone, Raindance2 (or whatever its called), Iceridge2, Snowblind2 and whatever else isnt in the above list.

Blasphemy! Deathcoaster is a smart map.
Dangerous crossing2 and Raindance2 are ok but all the other xxxx2 maps are appaling.

IMHO I think scrapping the existing default maps is a bad idea. Tribes is only just starting out in the UK, and a *lot* of people are still learning where best to stand in DX, where not to stand on Rollercoaster etc etc.

Give it a few months then start pushing in all the oddball maps.

Just my two pence/cents/rubles/francs/marks..

I had a laugh on Deathcoaster last night, but I was on the winning team. I dunno, but everytime I play that map one team lands up totally dominating and crapping on the other bigtime.
I've also gotta think about keeping the number of maps down as the cycle will be 2 days long and we reboot the server every day so some maps will never get played.
Or something like that.

Its a good point Brit, Tribes is relatively new and we need to avoid alienating new players. I also need to avoid boring existing players hence I think I need to do something.
Its obviously impossible to achieve both goals so I'm trying to find a middle ground that pisses off as few people as possible.

I'll think about a map cycle and post it here later on for comment.
One thing is for sure, if a map is crap, it can be removed. If a new map turns up and is excellent, it can be added.

I'd also like suggestions for game length. How long should it be? (assuming that the cap limit isnt reached)

Goldy, where do I get these maps to have a look at them?

I like the look of the new maps - yes lose mose of the xxxx2 maps - which to be honest were made when peeps were still dicking around with the editor (on a sidew not i do have a ghood idea for a map - but need a 'decent' tutorial to try and work it - its not cos im thick - i just aint got the time to spend learning how to use that god awful interface

)

id like to see a couple of extra maps considered -

Docking Station (large bases with multiple power genrators - controling different defences)

Cloud City ( the in air bases are cool but dropzone is too bland )maybe substitue it for air wars (havent played the 2 but i did test the original for a bit with lady shar - namedropping i know - but i just got the map and saw she had a tes server running and 'dropped' in on it (god dont i waffle on
smile.gif
) anyway we quickly came to the conclusion that the generators were too exposed - easily being take out by snipers back at base, one person woudl have the godawful time of constantly trying to repair the gens - and it would prolly take a while for a few to even find em

I know its both obvious and probably impossible, but it really is a case of an extra ctf server being needed. From 6pm till about 12pm its permanently full. Ive been on barryworld's servers since the beginning, and ive never seen a game's servers be so full of players all evening.

I dont know how the rest of barrys is doing for usage right now, and i know you guys are always short of more hardware, but it is getting to a point where Tribes just simply needs more servers

Yeh, definately keep the original set - if anyone new is practicing offline or at a LAN those are the maps they're going to be playing...

All I do have to say is get AirWars2 up now!!!

Sorry, just tried out about 30 different maps and that one really stuck out...

Some excellent choices there TeD.

One quick thing worth mentioning though, is that Raindance2 is great fun, and quite a simple map, very good for newbies.

Also, has anyone else located the underground generators?
