Tribes 2 HOSTED on Cable

Hey!

how many ppl can i run smoothy on a AMD T-BIRD 1.4GHZ CPU, with 512MB of DDR RAM, and a 1300kbps CAble connection, on Tribes 2 without getting any lag?

Im not sure what it is. But i think its around 900kbps Upload, 400 kbps download. If you know a way that i can check it... then pls tell me

that's prolly the other way round matey.
the very best way to check is to ask your cable ISP [look around on their webby -it should be there somewhere ]

on my cable modem I find that I can host up to 6 modem players in resonable comfort, dropping the number to 4 for games with high-bandwidth ppl

Downstream is 1.3 Mbps
Upstream is 450 kbps

weeeeel if you have ~450kbit/s to play with, an educated guess would be 12 players.
should be able to play in reasonable comfort I guess [and these guys seem to think so too]

btw, you should be aware that cable networks are known to be a bit quirky bandwidth wise so it would be smart to run with less players than more, if you know what I mean.

running a nice server will prolly take some tweaking btw, so you'd do well to get ready to dig in your configuration files etc...

That many? I was thinking closer to 7, that would give a consistent performance over time. (u know how a connection changes)

if it wasn't cable I'd say ~10
he will need to experiment [hehe don't we call that 'research'] with his settings to find optimal.
