Hi,

As there are a few travellers here I thought I'd ask for some advice.

Next May we're off to Canada for 3 weeks, that's me, Sharon and our 9 year old daughter. I've booked and paid for the flights so far, and will shortly start booking stuff like RV and car hire, 1st couople of nights accommodation etc. Whilst we are there we'll be travelling around without a very fixed itinerary.

There's probably no point in going for a years policy as we are unlikely to be going anywhere else in the year, and I do want a policy that protects us as far as possible against volcano/BA going bust type risks.

None of us have any health risks to mention.

Any ideas who best to go for, or how best to find out/compare?

Many thanks in advance.

not sure about down south RB - up here we have a bank account that gives you extras - one of which is travel insurance.

you checked if yours does that - its part of the agreement when you open the account

Thanks for the info guys, sadly Laz our bank accounts don't offer this.

Dys, that does look good, much cheaper than anything else I've found, though I guess I'll just have to wade through the small print to find out what they will NOT pay out for.

I had tried some of those Wij, just wondering if anyone had more personal experience really.

Thanks again tho

Any credit cards? We paid for insurance for years before we realised we were covered on our bank account and a couple of credit cards not connected to the bank.

Found out a couple of weeks ago that my work Bupa coverage includes travel insurance but they forgot to send me the card.

Luckily I haven't had a foreign holiday for a few years due to work. Oh wait...

RB :- Be careful when it comes to volcanoes and similar. They're classed as a Cataract of Bod and so can be a get out of jail free clause for them even if you have super insurance.

A lot of them do seem to mention catastrophe cover, and then list flood earthquake fire etc, but volcano is missing from both what is and isn't covered.

It would of course be incredibly unlucky to get caught that way again, but we do want to be covered as best we can, it's a lot of money to lose.

I've never understood why the weather isn't classed as an 'act of God'? We were delayed by heavy snow in January and got a lot of money.
