Tradeskill Problem?

I'm having an awkward time with the tradeskills, am I doing something stupid or is something else going on?

I have a level 8 nightshade, while I was level 7 I went to Tir Na Nog and signed up to become a Tailor. Speaking to Saffa the NPC, buying a sewing kit, making things and doing consignments from the Tailor Master helped me to raise my Tailoring skills to roughly 70.

Everything was going fine until I reached level 8, now when I try to use the Sewing Kit I get a "Can't fire or ready that item!" message. I've tried recreating the sewing kit icon on the speedbar, using the item from the inventory, selling the kit and buying a new one and logging out but nothing seems to work.

Am I doing something really dumb or does anyone have any suggestions?

you don't actually phsyically use the sewing kit , it just sits in your inventory , you need to drag the item your making into the quickbar , then click that to make the item .

Thanks, I knew I was doing something wrong but couldn't figure out what it was.

I hadn't noticed the sewing kit icon and tailoring skill icon look the same (but are different colours) so while cleaning up the speedbar I'd dragged the wrong thing.
