Trackmania...

Now I know that there was a discussion about this game buried deep in another thread, but I felt it deserved one of its own, sorry.

Having read the comments in that other thread I went ahead and bought the game, and have just spent a few drunken hours playing it, including a while online playing some impossible map against people I don't know, (well one of them was called Gumbo, own up was that our very own Gumbo?).

It was great fun, and although I have only just got onto the desert section of the SP game, and have no idea yet how to build my own tracks I want to play against people I know. So how do I go about this? Will, Summo and the others who have it, what IRC channel do I have to go to to arrange a game? Where are you all?

I have set up an account in the name R.B. (shocker), so I hope to see you soon.

Yo yo yooo yo. #trackmania on quakenet is fairly well populated most of the time and is as near to being the official IRC channel without actually having game developers idling there.

PS: this thread on the Digital Jesters (UK Trackmania publishers) forums contains a lot of super tracks!! Wow!

Oh, right, by the way, my in-game multiplayer name is "loser", aha. Hopefully I'll be able to get my firewalls sorted out soonish and will be able to host servers and such, though I know Will already can.

I especiialy recommend playing "Impromtu Haiku" and "Poopdeck II", written by our very own Louster.

I lost a good few hours to this game last night. It really rocks, especially once you get playing multiplayer.

Guilty as charged, I was going to post this morning that I had seen an RB, and was that you :p

It does indeed rock. Quite a consoley feel to it, but in an old skool mario kart playability style, whilst in no way being a karting game. If that makes any sense.

Well suited to a drunken evenings gameage. At least give the demo a rip, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

I shall be playing this tonight after work. On the multiplayer menu, I'll be the server located in Scotland. Though I am tempted to change the server location to Heaven, just because I know how to.

What sort of time Will? I'll do my best to be there.

I know the maps are very small, do they automatically D/L when you join a game or do you have to do summat else?

I'll be home about 5pm, so I'll probably be playing by 6pm...drop into #trackmania on QUakenet and hassle me if you want.

And they automagically download...the only time you would need to manually get a map is for hosting a server.

Pah, DEMO, SCHMEMO!

Get the real thing, and play with the big boys.

(Get the demo if you don't have it at all though, something is better than nothing)

Just played in Losertown, thanks to Louster, fucking ace, even though I am still crap:)

Brilliant maps Louster, how long do they take to create? Must you complete the game in single player to afford all the bits to make online maps?

Will, you may be playing at the wrong time for me tonight, got the little one to put to bed and all, but I'll look around later and see who's around.

You can get a program which unlocks all the tiles for the map editor, but officially you earn coppers doing the single player game, which you can then use to buy blocks to build tracks with.

And would be nice to have some familiar faces, I could even get a TS server going. I'll fire it up later anyway, see how it goes.

Couple of hours on Lousters game rocked very muchly. Great maps, some frustratingly difficult bits, and some great really fast bits.
