I get DAOC tomorrow and have read loads on what class to play and have narrowed it down to either Ranger or Bard.
Which is most in demand/needed by Hibernia?I think i would enjoy playing with any of these equally well so its really just down to whats most helpful.

Rangers have trouble getting groups. Their skills dont fall into the 'bash and nuke large numbers of creatures while regenerating stats department' their damage output is low and armour weak when compared to other hib classes.

Bards on the other hand have 1001 abilites that make it great for everyone else along for the ride.

Every group wants 1-2 bards and 0 rangers.

Bards are ace fun to play, especially at higher levels. But you'll always be welcome in groups at any level.

1 thing that's bad about them is the swapping out of instruments at times it can get really piss annoying.

Mythic seem hell bent on reducing solo rvr so rangers are possibly not the best choice now, especially as it's your first character.

Agree with Kameh, a bard would be an excellent choice for you since they are much more loved in groups than Rangers. Wouldn't want to see a fresh player leave because of a hard class :)

Hibernia needs tanks. Nobody ever needs a ranger, but when there's a ranger around to help, things tend to go a lot better in both RvR and PvE. Ranger life is lonely, bard life will involve people telling you what to do all the time, and blaming you for stuff going wrong but never for things going right. I'd go for the ranger ( ;

Ya and get 20 pm's an hour saying "haha I bet you don't get many pm's" or pm's of people trying to make an original remark about it, only failing because every comment imaginable regarding the name has been made at least a dozen times ( ;

Hold yer horses......

Depends what you want out of the game....

Theres no denying that the impact a bard has on RVR and PVE grp easily overshadows that of a ranger....

But if you are looking for gameplay, the ranger has to be one of the best classes.....

Having access to a lvl 50 bard and Ranger, I am compelled to say that although the bard is deadly, they can be a bit boring to play..

PVE bard.... Keep end/mana song up and heal...
RVR bard.... Mezz and Healing mainly... (not saying bards are easy to play well though, ((I sux at bard play)))

PVE ranger.... Soloing, Or tanking (aye not fun but keeps u busy)

RVR ranger..... GR8 fun. Jack of all trades, Self buffs, Speed shouts, Stealth, Self heals with RA, Longest range attack in game (crit shots), Melee ability...

Ranger is probably one of DAOC's least deadly classes but are gr8 gr8 fun to play....

You will never get the same satisfaction seeing a Zzzz over a players head as driving an arrow through their heart.... (I wont mention what MR infiltraitor will then do to you shortly afterward)

If I could do it all again, Id play a ranger... prolly even a gimped pink lurikeen one to...

From my experience: rangers that give up, do so before 50 because they can't get groups. Bards that give up, do so after 50 because RvR groups rely heavily on them, making it hard to just kick back, relax and play the bard like you want... my guild has 5 or 6 bards, but all of them prefer playing other classes because of the stress involved in being a good bard in RvR. So know what you're getting yourself into ( ;

My very very first character in game was an Albion minstrel , and found it was bit too much to start with as the first character: especially switching all the instruments (from quick bar and from inventory), always be told off :p "Speed" "Dont' cast the confusion" "Power song" whatever

Start a bard recently, it has been alright, maybe I have seen how other ppl play their bards in the group, so get much more experience now and knowing what the bard suppose to do. I like it, but still have ppl tell me what to do which is a bit annoying sometimes.

You have chance to create 4 characters anyway, so can try both if you want it :)

Hehe

Yeah, make a bard =)

Eleasias is right, rangers ARE fun to play, but they are hardly the class to start with, arrows is dead expencive, you are not very pop in groups and you do not solo good without good equipment, meaning you need even more money =)

Bards dont cost anything, you can be much afk giving you time to chat and such. Bards are the official jokemakers of hibernia =)

Then make a ranger later on instead, and go out there challenge miss and eleasias for rps when both the chars are 50 ;)

And dont forget, tell "point" if you need a little starting gold, although i bet anyone would give ya =)
