Total Annihilation

Just dug this fantastic game out of my cd pile to start playing it again. Very good, fucking hard.

I bought it when it first game out, played it a bit, got too hard, gave up. So did anyone ever play it, if so any tips?

The main thing that pisses me off is the fog of war, and the fact that units constantly attack you from outside your vision. Even if you have stupidly long range units, they still get cained by the other units outside the fog of war.

So, any tips would be appreciated.

p.s. I know this may not be entirely the right forum to post this in, but hey..sue me :)

TA

is still probably the best futuristic RTS out there, only surpassed by age of empires two... and that's a slightly different category....

best unit :

Maverick Gunslinger bot...

It's quite cool that the graphics have hardly aged at all. Still some of the best explosions in an rts yet (next to a veteran kirov in ra2 :) )

TA is a seriously underated game - excellent fun, partically good to play at LAN parties I find.

Hardly anyone could play the large maps when it came out - 128mb of RAM required :eek6:

Build long range radar towers, and the "automatic targetting facility" thing, and no more fog of war problems.

Ahaha. Great stuff.

Anywho radar stuff is much easier to use than scout planes. No need to constantly oversee the patrolling or whatever.

I guess I forgot that early on in the campaign game you don't have it. I guess scout planes would work, but I found that having radar stuff and keeping an eye out for different-coloured splodges appearing on the minimap worked fairly well, since you can attack stuff by clicking the minimap anyway.

I, too paid for an account there but I'm not funny enough to post anything. :(

Punch them both in the cunts.

I'm also not entirely sure where to use commas. :(

You have a masterful use of sad smilies, however.

this is what I get for leaving my computer. tail-end of a decent thread :(

sea and air attack maps are the best. land units confuse me. though if you have time, build big bertha's too annihilate the enemy commander. saves time hunting the bastard down

The command +shootall is very useful in my experience. I happen to love playing TA, it really is quite lovely. :)

Good thing about Big Bertha's and such like, once you locate the enemy commander you can tell them to continue shooting at him for the entire battle. Chances are they won't hit him providing he's moving around, but they'll hit just about everything else that's around him. :D

PeeWee's all the way though, if one gets shot down you know where their coming from then :p
