What did you think?
I have to say while there was every chance the new series would be tired,it
most certainly wasn't and it's along time since I've LOL'd at the telly,
They have just nailed it and those three 'Last of the summer wine' idiots
are pure class, driving up to the icelandic volcano and Clarkson rolling a Reliant
over and over again.
Even the 'Star in a car' was top class comedy, Hammond trying to keep his back away from the Pineapple studios 'Gayest man on the planet'

Mixed reactions from me
I thought James May & the Volcano was great & the Robin Reliant bit was very funny

...but it just felt cheaper? Feels like they've massively cut the budget. The new format for the star in the reasonably priced car bit didn't work for me....who the fuck cares about that page 3 bird or the gayest man on the planet? They're not even personalities. They didn't even show the lap. It may grow on me. I hope so.

I'm waiting for them to come up with another awesome challenge. Best one IMO was the motorcycle trip up Vietnam. My all time fave. I could watch that 20 times. Clarkson's exclamation "I am the most miserable person on the planet" was so funny

I honestly believe in fours years time we should forget the teams and just send in Top Gear to make the whole world cup as an episode.

North pole
Vietnam
Space shuttle
Alabama trip

Link if you in the UK

Hmmm. Its not a new format. They made it clear (i thought) that its just a one off to put a few names/times on the new lap time board?

I drive a Reliant Rialto, more modern than the Robin, as I have a full motorcycle licence. Rolling the early models was easy but not quite as easy as TG would have you believe and I have never come even near rolling mine.

I thought the series was funny though and quite well made although I have read the info about how they did it and there was as you would expect a fair bit of orchestration.

As long as no idiot decides it is the ultimate in humour to turn my car on its roof in the middle of the road I will continue to find TG funny. ( yes it happened once and wrecks the wing mirrors which are now irreplacable). Apparently the police disapprove of razor wire being attached to the chassis to deter this. :(

Been waiting what seemed like ages for Top Gear to return and was hoping it would still be fresh/funny/interesting and it held up VERY well imo. Jeremy crashing the reliant robin's was just piss funny - it was as much about the way they filmed it with the camera angles as it was Jeremy's actual conversations with the camera or other ppl (or z-list celebs lol)

They did the same a few series ago with the Star-in-a-reasonably-priced-car but it was funny back then and it was funny again this time so if it ain't broke don't fix it... it rocks :D
