Yes, very strange. I'm guessing he'd been diagnosed with something terminal.

Exactly what I thought when I heard it.

If his films are anything to go by I could see him wanting to go out on his own terms rather than fading away due a degenerative illness, though I would have also expected some explosions, a car crash or two and a F15 flyby as a backdrop.

I knew it, I fucking knew it.

I've said this on another thread, but the number of people I've heard or known to have a brain tumour is fucking alarming me to the core. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it because my cousin died of it last year (and my dad's best mate a few years prior, and my brother-in-law's mother), but for a supposedly "very rare" cancer there appears to be a shitload of people that have died from it. I was thinking this morning "if I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, i'd be tempted to end it".

The most common brain tumours are the most aggresive kind and are a death sentence with most people dying in 12 to 18 months from diagnosis. It's a horrifying cancer, it eats at the core of your soul gradually turning you into a bed ridden zombie only to waste away and die.

We're talking about Tony Scott right? Not Michael Bay? :)
Then again we're talking Bruckheimer/Simpson produced movies so that explains it.

We'll find out in due course what the reasons are.

It's just the same effect as when you buy a new car and realise every fucker has one as well.

If it had been Bay I would have expected the entire bridge to explode, ending up with a liberal amount of scantily clad Victoria Secrets models draped across the wreckage, in slow motion.

No it's getting very weird, they have found no evidence of tumours in the autopsy , how this news has come out so soon is odd as well, I don't know the source for the original claim either, though it was widely reported. He actually hit the water right next to a tourist boat, I'm not sure a 180 ft fall into water is a guaranteed kill, surely there's a chance you could survive and drown in agony, I'd rather drink and drug myself to death.

At 180 feat the surface tension will be like hitting concrete, so unless you're very well versed in water entry it's more than enough to knock you unconscious/dead straight away.

The world record dive is 177ft, so he only jumped from a height that that an expert can survive without any real fancy entry pose.
Though he looks a bit fucked after it ;)

Well yes, actually he broke his back, but his entry after all the flips was pretty standard feet first, he even has his arms out, you would have to belly flop it I guess to guarantee knocking yourself out.

Well it does "help" if you're near 70. You could fall off your bed and die.

You know even successful people kill themselves without needing some sort of terminal disease to justify doing so. As Wazz said most people will die from that height and even experts would struggle, if you remember the guy in this years Olympics during the 10 meter event having to withdraw after he accidentally hit the water on his back it kind of gives you an idea of how fucked you would be at great heights. The most famous bridge for suicides being the Golden Gate bridge with the drop from the road deck to the water of around 250ft which results in a speed of about 75 mph when you hit the water, it has over 1500 suicides to its name including one woman who survived her first time only to do it again and die.
