[10-03-2006] The Camelot Reporter

Mythic and GOA continue to explore new ideas for the evolution of the game and new services that could be available in the future. As a result of this, you have no doubt noticed the numerous polls that have been published recently to better understand your preferences and gamestyle habits. We will of course inform you of these plans in the coming months.
This week's news also contains the update of underpopulated realm bonuses including the new servers this time, as well as a background piece that pays homage to the ordinary people of Albion. Finally, you can find in this news everything you need to know if you wish to get a mount or change it.

Surveys, the continuation
Surveys keep on arriving and you could answer three new questions this week. Be prepared for a new survey next week and note that you have until the end of the weekend to answer the questions about the Camelot reporter in the Surveys part of the website.

About the Roll of Honour
All XML data is now correct and we now have to update the interface of the Roll of Honour so that Glastonbury and Salisbury are also displayed.

We remind you of a part of the charter of the game regarding names for characters or guild names. These must only contain alpha-numerical characters. Trying to bypass this rule when choosing a lastname or a guildname leads to bugs, especially for XML generation in the Roll of Honour. The Community Managers thus have to rename some guilds or characters who have incorrect characters in their name.

Basics of RvR
For a while now, we receive more and more complaints following arguments between players from a same Realm who don't share the same view of RvR.

The frontiers are the battlefield where the armies of the three Realms fight each other. A place where characters fight an endless battle. Of course, everyone goes there with their own motivations. But be it for the pleasure of the victory whatever the cost, for a balanced encounter won without loss, or simply to increase the number of their realm points, to lead guild companions to a fortress attack, to protect the relics against the avidity of the adversary of the time, to try and have a title by accumulating rogue duels, to block a bridge until death, to follow the 120 allies who are making themselves ready to become the masters of the Isle of Agramon, to fight for the glory of their King, for one's own glory or even to try and fight only with one group versus another group, there is no motivation better or more legitimate than another.

Everyone is free to propose to the others some rules of conduct. But offering does not mean imposing. There can be no rule, for instance, that stipulates that two groups that are fighting each other must be left alone. It is also out of the question to establish a zone restricted to solo characters or group versus group confrontations by blaming those who preferred to come with 40 allies and played their own way. As there is no reason to demand to the members of a group to come and back up the action of their Realm if they prefer to take care of something else.

Each one has his own view of fair-play, of the type of game he likes and of what he expects from his companions. But whatever happens, it is not acceptable to have players insulting or threatening others which includes when some players did not follow their own RvR code of conduct. As long as we remain within the frame of the GOA Rules of Conduct there is no good or bad way to play Dark Age of Camelot, and thus, no reason to try and impose one's way to the others.
And we must keep in mind that everyone is here to play, that every character met, friend or enemy, is only the representation of a player who, as oneself, logged in to have fun.

Fixes of the week
- The two handed blunt version of Battler on Hibernia can now be dyed.
- The Fagan's Signet Ring, used for the Epic Quest of the Path of Essence on Hibernia can no longer be sold.
- The owners of the Necyomancer artefact don't need to store the chalk that is used to draw the pentacle anymore since it no longer disappears once it's been used.

he Tip of the week
Changing one's mount easily
The catalog of the horses has not been available on your website until now. It will be added very soon and this is the occasion to give you a few pieces of information and tips.

We remind you that the selection of available mounts increases with character levels. You can have a Standard Chestnut Horse as soon as you reach level 35, it is also available to all people who don't have the Darkness Rising expansion. The Chestnut Horse is the first horse that can be equipped. After that, with each Champion level, the selection of mounts increases but the difference between them is purely aesthetic. Since they can be quite expensive, some people might hesitate to buy one or change their mount.

But you shouldn't hesitate and it is even possible to have several mounts, just because you want to, because you won't lose much money when reselling them if needed.
For epic mounts, for example, as long as it is not activated, you can sell the ticket back to a merchant for the price you bought it at. Besides, once it is yours, the standard horse is sold back for 75% of its purchase price (against 50% in general for all objects bought by merchants) and the advanced horses are sold for 90% of the purchase price, which is only a small loss.

So, do not hesitate to change your mount with each Champion level if you wish to. We also remind you that advanced mounts have access to all equipments and that it is thus not necessary to change your mount if you want to equip it with the extra saddlebags available with each Champion level. Here is in images the selection available :

indeed :) it says what every sensible person knows - play how ye want and don't go abusing people for rvring in a different way.

Of course this is a massive censure to all those roleplayers who whine to no end at those fg groups for not helping out on keeptakes...

oh wait ;)

Hope someone copied the RvR bit in the RvR section in bold, underlined, italic and with a neon sign 50 feet high bearing a huge pair of neked boobies, a picture of a great wtfpwn moment in counterstrike, an offer of free porn and kleenex for life to attract attention.

If not, it may take a while to get through to certain people...

Not quite.

XML for relics on Glastonbury and Salisbury are not updating at all.

And housing XML is still not updating correctly, on any server. When an owner of a house changes or leaves a guild, XML will insist that you're still in the same guild, as when you bought the house.

'See you next week with news about the next patch' doesn't necessarily mean you're gonna post a release date.

For all we know it'll just be the patch notes, to 'prepare' people.

Don't make it prettier than it is. ;)
