ToA should be like this...

I think these changes would make alot of people come back..

With artifacts this is what you have to do to achieve your goal.

Camp an Artifact <maybe a day or so> ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz
Then to farm the scrolls even more ZZZZZZzzzzzzz
then activate the artifact
To make it even worse you gotta lvl the artifact after.

So prolly 2-3 weeks for 1 artifacts to get lvl 10

So this is what i wouldn't mind doing for artifacts as a player

Camp artifacts i dont mind that, but make the spawn faster.
No more scrolls for the artifact
So once you got the artifact you can go and activate it without the scrolls
Once activated then go and level where needed

I know this wont happen but im sure alot of people will come back to DAoC

Master Levels i havn't done much so i cant comment on that.

Just my own thoughts on ToA Artifacts, what do you guys think?

Make all PvE content equally accessible from all realms, that would make me more happy than anything else. When I read about encounters and see "5 fg mids or 1 fg hibs with 2 animists", or read about that minstrel duoing Chimaera, it just makes me want to play something else.

artifacts were never designed to be easy, the same way TG wasnt designed to be easy to solo with a bot. Thats why it will never happen.

As for xpin most artifacts have been readressed in the coming patch

Noone said you HAD to have artifacts to compete in rvr, you can easily reach caps without them using quests, but you will miss the utility from them. Not that it matters much hididng in keeps/zerg

i think it would have been a much better idea to have artifacts lvl on quest instead of mindless mobbashing.

1 quest for each artifact and each artifaktlvl. where the quest to get lvl1 for the artifact would be quite easy and the lvl10quest would be quite hard and require a fg or so. i think questing your artifacts to lvl10 would be much more fun that killing the same mobs for hours.

Very good idea :)

Maybe the artifacts should have been attainable by doing some very long quest too rather than camping a spot for several hours, similar to the epic quests but without the numerous hours on horseback? Quality of gameplay could be improved a lot here.

I despise ToA I really do.

When will game developers, specifically MMO game developers, realise that levelling grinds are not gameplay.

I will not sit for hours waiting for a specific mob to pop, as it is a huge waste of my time. I will not spend hours farming the same mobs over and over again in the hope of a specific item/scroll drop, for the same reason.

Developers seem hung up on levelling grinds in MMO games as some kind of holy grail that keeps people playing, where in actual fact I believe it is the single most pointless aspect of any MMO game.

I want to have adventures when I log on, not some mindless methodical repetitive activity with a chat-bar. As if getting to 50 wasn't enough, then you have Master Levels (wank imo) and artifacts - ooh more levelling, cheers, I hadn't had enough of that 3 years ago.

What I think would be an interesting idea is a MMO game where your avatar can and will die - permanently. I would like to see masses of basic and advanced career paths open to you, so that when you played your character could branch their role according to their experiences, but at the end of the day one where you could permanently die, roll a new char and see the world from a different perspective. Warrior, Archer, Beggar, Thief, Witch Hunter, Highwayman, Aristocrat, Pirate, whatever you fancied on the night you logged on. Include some means of resurrection maybe to help party-play, but make death real. Maybe even have levelling, but not for farming endless mobs. Instead give a thief experience for thieving, a beggar for begging, hell even a woodsman for gaining craftsmanship from their profession.

Just a thought - unfortunately I think that all developers are stuck in the 'if they don't have mindless repetitive actions to carry out, they will stop paying their subs' mindset, and it will take a brave dev to break the mould.

Blizzard seems to agree, it will be interesting to see if they manage to completely eliminate it. Then perhaps game designers sit up and pay attention, but the large number of subscribers will most likely be assumed to be due to the Warcraft brand name rather than gameplay issues.

God I hate this forum sometimes - I was not posting a 'General Whinge' as you so delightfully term it, more my thoughts on what I would like to see from future MMO games, and why I personally do not like ToA.

I have no artifacts, and am not going to bother with ML's - as I say I don't see any point.

Surely not every post has to be a flamefest, template discussion, gripe about lag/albs/hibs/mids/classes/nerfs, or whatever - we all play the same game, so why not discuss what would make it a better game? Your example of an unsaved RPG is crass in the extreme - you would not come close to what i describe by doing so, you would merely replay the same scripted section of the same game.

I have played DAOC since the closed beta, and for the most part have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have joined what I feel is the best guild in the realm, and made some great friends.

However the blight of the game *imo* is the grind. New content? Nah, more grind.

So am I wrong to look forward? To wish that the aspect of the game that discourages more players than it encourages were not viewed as the main staple of the genre, and the core of all MMO experiences?

Come on then Hansmoleman, prove you have more wits than I give you credit for and suggest how you feel the genre could be improved. I am genuinely interested in every opinion, so give me yours.

Sweet out.

I work for a company that develops games and you wouldnt believe how ignorant some of our designers are. A lot of them think they know best, but often dont, if they took there noses out of their work and actually played the game extensively they would realise their flaws, but heh some of us are pretty good :D

My scout performed well without arti's for awhile, only had +dex cap drops, before you say it, no it wasn't leeching towers it was meleeing people down.

+stat cap items if a minimum boost to dmg, rest is just fluff.

I know exactly what you mean, I am a Project Manager for a large blue chip company, and design business solutions - again we have the same issues with developers.

i like the game as it is, sure it could do with a bit of balancing but if every class was equal it would be V boring, people would leave if that was the case, they need some overpowered class to keep people playing thats why warlock is guna be insanely strong at first, no point releasing and expansion to say here buy this and get a class which is just as good as the rest but no better.
