if part of a name contains a word or phrase that is considered as potentially offensive by more than a minority of players (and anyone who says "bastard" doesn't fall into that category is deluding themselves), then out of common consideration and courtesy it shouldn't be used.

Whilst I could see the reason in restricting some words I can't agree with he banning of this one...

Mythic themselves made it acceptable by including Bastard swords in the game...

Or do we now have to report any1 asking a WC to make such a weapon?

Excuse me Mr WC, can I have a fatherless sword please :)

my surname is Dasquirrelslayer.. suprised no squirrel lovers have complained tbh.. :p

anyhoo.. if bastard is banned.. does that mean all future D&D games gonna get reported for use of bastard swords? (along with many others)

some people think hell is a swearword...

personally, i think midgard is the most offensive and disgusting word on earth.. try banning that :)

actually you used the wrong definition of bastard in this case

Main Entry: bas·tard
2 : something that is spurious, irregular, inferior, or of questionable origin

a bastard sword is named thus because it is the combination of a longsword and a broadsword, it is also called a "hand and a half" sword

Bastard-sword
A bastard sword is a generic name for a large number of straight-bladed European swords used with either one or two hands.
Also known as hand and a half swords, they appeared in virtually all West European countries after 1000 AD and remained in use well into the 1500s.

They featured a long, straight blade (approx. 70-100 centimetres) and a slightly longer than usual hilt (sometimes up to 20-25 cm). They were neither a smaller single-handed sword, nor the massive two-handed type. Rather, they were a "bastard" version of both.

The name "bastard sword" could also refer to any bladed tool sharpened on only one edge (eg. a bastard-saw or bastard-file).
