Thinking of driving over from Nottingham and pitching a tent in Beddgelert this evening. It's a small village at the foot of Snowdon. Couple of good pubs. Plenty of Welsh racism. Stunning views.

Perhaps leave Notts about 5 and get there at 8ish. Pitch tent, go to pub. Tomorrow walk up Snowdown then go pub, Sunday do a little shopping in Betwys-y-Coed and then mosey on home.

It's a lot of driving for a short stay but the scenery is spectaular and, most importantly, the weather is supposed to be a little sunnier and involve snow.

Like a child, snow is important to me. Especially when coupled with mountains... :)

The alternative is to stay in Nottingham, with it's colder-but-sleety-wetter climate but dash out into the Derby Dales on Saturday in search of snow, then go round a mates on Saturday night to get hammered and then pub on Sunday afternoon to watch Manc Scum vs Lollerpool.

Wales will be more expensive due to petrol and subsequent shopping. Colder due to camping. Healthier due to getting out and walking about but also more tiring.

What do I do people? I can't make this important decision by myself!

I used to go camping there all the time when I was a kid (lived on Anglesey). Camping in snow smacks of masochism, but sure, go for it. The Peak District is a bit too bleak for my taste.

Go but forget the tent. Tent camping in snow sucks. You need a hammock and lots of layers.

Oh and a mod needs to change the thread title both cases of "To" to "Too"

Never has a thread title needed it more.

Never has Raven needed grammar lessons more :)

Too describes an excess of something - such as in "too much to drink"...

If the debate is whether Scouse is too camp or not too camp (as in not camp enough), then Scouse is definitely too camp.

:(

I'm a world of shit today. I can't even shoot straight in Counterstrike :(

Anyway - we're going camping. The missus she say "yes". Hopefully I'll post some snow-laden pics on Sunday :)

If you could be doing the teapot as you take the pics to back up our suspicions of your campness, that would be great.

I seem to remember spending a lot of my time falling in the river when we used to go there (I had childhood* form for falling in/down/into things, especially bodies of water); try that. Loads of fun in January.

Where on Anglesey did you live again Gaff? Had a van at Red Wharf Bay for 30 years. I miss that lots :(

Beaumaris.

Aye. I remember now.

If the weather's nice on Sunday I may even see if I can convince her to go on a quick fishing trip on the Starida, presuming they're still runnning at this time of year :)

Christ, got really excited when I saw the thread title, thought "wow,a gaming thread about whether camping is great (thinking spawn points)". Alas, tents?

It's going to be cold as fuck this weekend. If you do go, make sure you're prepared to get snowed in etc.

We didn't go :(

Bird didn't get home until really late from work last night and threw her toys out of the pram because it was raining in Beddgelert and was supposed to be until 3am. The big jess...

So, instead we've just got back from a big bike ride around Nottinghamshire and a humoungous luncheon at a cafe at Newstead Abbey. And tonight we're round a friends for slow roasted beaujolais lamb and a pissup.

Yeah, it's not the same but I'll ride out to the southbank tomorrow and watch Scum vs Lollerpool. It'll be scant consolation tho as we get thumped 3-1 :(

I've told her to take a couple of days off at the end of the month. Depending on the weather at the location we'll either do Snowdon, Scafell Pike or (and I've a hankering 'cause I've never done it) Nevis.
