To BT or not to BT?

Okay my Dad is kinda getting annoyed at me cos I'm always hogging the telephone line. He suggests getting a second line. The way I see this is that,

a) I could get a second analogue line.

b) Pay BT (scum) and get Home highway.

c) Wait till BT introduce ADSL, but can't wait too long.

d) Try to get cable. We have the green boxes in my neighbourhood, but at the mo no connection

At the moment I'm probably heading for Home Highway. Are there any alternative options that I haven't considered? Ne1 know when ADSL is going to be available in the SE London area? Ne1 got any experience with home highway?

Basically I'm trying to say that I'm confused and would appreciate any advice you could offer.

I say stick with the cable idea.

I work for Telewest in Gateshead, and we are in the london area (or at least part of it) and we will be launching HSDL soon (mid 2000, I think), with 4 times the capacity of ordinary lines, twice as fast as ISDN, and all for only a monthly fee.

Don't know what it will be yet though, I'll keep you posted as soon as I have heard more.

Don't bother getting a 2nd analogue line, you might as well get HH.

HH is fine, its reasonably fast and £25/month.

Remember with HH the minimum contract is 12 months.

I heard that ADSL is due september some time, at the earliest. If you really can't hold out get HH for a year, it's relatively cheap (BT are still doing the reduced price installation), and then switch to cable or ADSL. The only thing I'd be concerned about is that you'll still have to pay for the calls with HH, whereas with cable/ADSL you pay a one-off sum and use their facilities as much as u like

Er, yeah Memski I'm glad your back. No honestly I am.

Dam that 12 months stuck with HH. Darn, I would like the benefits of ADSL or cable. Especially at a "all u can frag" price. But I have a time crisis, so unless someone comes up with a better solution (and soon) it seems like I'm destined to be HHboy. Oh and I'm getting my Dad to pay for it! Hehe

It's okay m8, but BT have released more details about ADSL....10-40 times faster than your average modem....oh well, the year will fly by, eh Finger magnet?

BT suggest March 2000, which is probably means June/July who knows even August (Me hopes!). Just when my 12 months with HH ends, with abit of luck
