no doubt everyone has seen this in the paper now. stupid MPs saying christmas and anything along with it is offencive. yet, they get these 'facts' without asking the people who are supposed to be effected.

so, what i wanna know from you none christians is 1) do you find it offencive? 2)do you think it should be banned for the hell of it? 3)the MPs are talking shit as usual 4)all of the above.

i also wanna know from the people who agree with these MPs. why do you agree? if you do agree then surely its right to ban all other religious events.

only sensible posts please, wij leave your cock at the door.

Christmas really has very little to do with Christianity these days.

I always thought Christmas was classed as a "public holiday"...

Today in work i checked to see if i should maybe work it as its triple pay for that day, but then i seen "Christmas is not classed as a public holiday and those who are rotored in to use it may not get the triple pay"

... buhhh wtf... :/

I as a non-Christian, am deeply offended that someone can decide, without my knowledge or consent, what is offensive to me. This offends me far more than Christmas which I quite like, especially when I am due to be home for it :)

Fucking usless overly politically correct bunch of wankers (for the sake of argument, wel call them New Labour) seem to be turning us into a nanny state and banning evrything in sight, wer barely allowed to get drunk on £1/pints any more! Its going too far and they shoud leave well enough alone and stop running the people and start running the public services! The less the government is seen to do, the better!

If we are going to re-name christmas trees, which have been called such for so many years, to festive trees and for councils to re name christmas lights to festive lights and for all xmas cards to read seasons greetings or merry festive day then we should just scrap the whole thing. Following this we should scrap diwali, hanukah, haj, ramadan and all these other religious events in this country. If someone has objections to me wearing a santa hat whilst walking down the road then i think turbans should be banned.

Please don't take me as a racist or anything because i am not. I truly believe that if the government wants us to be a cosmopolitan country with many different religions and cultures all working together then they have to allow each religion to have its own identification. If it wants us to be a single country with one religion and one culture then it should ban all religions except for the one it proposes.

As someone has stated christmas rarely means christianity anymore. Christmas cards and trees and celebrations etc are part of the culture in England and you cannot take these things away. To the best of my limited historical knowledge Christmas has been celebrated for nearly 2004 years and in this time christianity has been the main religion of england for over 500 years. Are we really saying that this ban on celebrating such a traditional festival is going to mean that people won't take offense to it. For god sake who is the religious minority in this country ? Christians?

this is a christian country, therefore we should celebrate christian holidays as christian holidays

If any of the non christian religions in this country dont like it then i suggest they go back to their own religions country

I would like to see what would happen if non muslims living in say turkey complained about islamic holidays being offensive to them as they werent muslim, coz they would get shot live on alajabooee tv

THe whole point of life should be for each religion to acknowledge and accept each other while maintaining our individual believes and values.

is it me or is it simple :

Celebrate Christmas if you want to.

for me, the religion thing is well and truly booted out of the festive period due to money hungry shops/trades cashing in.

I prefer the family time and relaxation away from work.

I am a Christian (albeit of variable quality) and I don't celebrate Christmas ... has nothing to do with Christianity as such. Half the things that are done at Christmas - overeating, drinking, shagging somebody at the office do etc, are hardly things Jesus would have thought much of ... strange way to celebrate somebody's life by doing things they wouldn't have liked.

Christmas doesn't offend me, more the effects of Christmas.

It becomes effectively impossible to lead an ordinary life around the Christmas period. You can't even get your food down the supermarket without being bombarded with hoards of horrible, tasteless and shameless advertising or having to wait half an hour in a queue. Should you wish to do anything social, all of a sudden the prices skyrocket and every place out becomes a heaving meat market of bodies, ruining any unique social atmosphere places have.

Plus the coutry stops for several days. Fantastic for those of us that will have things to do over the period. Sure, have Christmas and let those who want to celebrate it - IMO you shouldn't force the country to close down/become so retarded due to those that do.

To me christmas is akin to birthdays, a celebration of sorts. And I don't mean Christmas for me is celebrating the birthday of jeebus. I mean it's a celebration with little or no religious meaning.

I may well have contradicted myself as I don't really know why we celebrate birthdays, hell maybe that's religious as well? Either way it doesn't have any religious meaning to me.

I think christmas should be cherished, as religious or not - it's that rare occasion when you get the slight little niggling feeling that maybe just maybe people are treating each other right.

i think its a simple case of having too much freedom of speech, got nothing against it its just that sometimes the stupid people have far too much of a say.

And on the subject of christmas spirit:

I ain't a Christian but I like the idea of a rather paganistic period of debauchery to cheer up an otherwise sucidally depressing month (December).

But really, call it what it is. Christmas is christmas, the bloody muppets. My son's school has had themed events for each of the major religious festivals in the past few months like Ramadan, Ede and Divali (please ignore my spelling, my son's Religous Education is a damn site better than mine was).

I was more than happy for him to learn and take part in those just like I'm happy for him to learn about Christianity at the same time as Consumerist Gluttony.

If the government said that someone couldn't celebrate a non-christian religous festival in public they'd be rightly pilloried.

So from a non-christian to all the many christians in the country I say...

...STAND UP FOR YOUR SELF AND FIGHT, FOR YOUR RIGHT(s).... TO PARTY!!!

Great Britain is historically and primarily a christian place. If you are non christian then the chances are that at some point in your lineage there are descendants from other countries. Maybe you are a first generation immigrant, it matters not. If you come to a country you must expect and be expected to at least respect that countries culture. This does not mean convert, just respect.
If for example I went to a "dry" arab country then I would not drink alcohol. Likewise Mrs Yuck would cover up more than she would normally, if that is what is expected. If I decided to live in Israel, then I could hardly complain if the shops were shut on saturday.

My view is, that if you find the environment in this country so intolerable then do us all a favour and fuck off tbh.

BTW religion is bollocks imo.

I don't think any racial minorities object to English festivals, its more the lentil eating greasy haired council members that cause the problems.

We need to be more like France tbh.

I bet the groups that the PC brigade think are offended by Xmas really dont give a rats ass about christmas and all the baggage that goes with it. Like I dont give one either about some other festiveles that go on.

It's like the footy championships this summer. Some gobshite councillor saying it was offensive to have the George Cross in your car. WTF!!!!!!!!!
